Successful Macnab Challenge

The trip immediately started with a catered pickup from the Johannesburg airport, followed by a relaxing drive to a reserve containing breathtaking animals. To say the Big 5 would be an understatement. Following the conclusion, my arrival at the lodge included a welcoming owner, operator, PH, and chef who began explaining the festivities planned for the hunt in the morning. The bonfire, dinner and dessert were delicious (including Kudu game meat). The lodge included my own private kitchen, living room, and clean bedroom. The morning started with a rifle warmup session for acclimating to the top-of-the-line equipment provided and the hunt began. The reserve size was expansive, with 4-wheel transportation everywhere to prevent becoming tired throughout the long and fun day ahead!
The macnab challenge included a Guineafowl, Impala, and Bass in the agenda. Guineafowl run quickly and aren’t the largest birds, but the PH and operator ensured we found a suitable location with Guineafowl for action, crossing the Guineafowl off my list.
The impala hunting was amazing. Many bucks and herds running and grazing across the land. It was a challenging time throughout the midday as the heat kicked in. We paused for a fantastic brunch ant the lodge, and fished for several hours in a local lake then private Eco-friendly (owned by Rust De Winters) resort that had large mouth bass swimming in the river alongside. An exhilarating catch was in-store and resulted in checking the bass off my list.
The owner mentioned that transitioning to a blesbok instead of an impala was an option as the day progressed for more exciting options! Lo and behold, my PH identified a grazing heaven with Blesbok. My operator advised me which animals were fair game, and we setup in the truck. Despite the brush, a visible shot was apparent which concluded the day. We celebrated with another sunset safari to see giraffes and zebras, followed by another excellent meal.
I cannot wait to come back, as this was an experience I will NEVER forget. Thank you, Rust De Winters!

The most amazing honeymoon

Everything was top class. From the hunting to the accommodations, food and overall experience. We will no doubt be back for even longer than a week next time, it is a truly remarkable property with so much to access.

Lots of game and beautiful country.
Staying in the hunters hut was great also. Relaxing with an awesome view.

Guide was knowledgeable and professional.
Poor game processor. Was not happy with the amount and quality of the bison meat. Packages were bloody and ripped and punctured that allowed freezer burn. It seemed like they did not allow the bison to hang at all. It was very bloody. Got back half of what I was told and expecting.

This was an excellent experience from all aspects. Ignacio is a super person who deeply cares about making sure that your hunt is great. Long before my wife and I flew to Spain, he was arranging for the best rooms in beautiful and historic hotels, and arranged for great traditional Spanish meals. He even sent us a questionnaire to allow us to outline what we liked and disliked. We hunted in rugged and picturesque areas, and I loved the challenging mountain terrain. My hunt started out tough with lousy weather of wind, fog, rain and snow but he and his team of local guides were hard working and persistent, eventually finding an 11 year old ram that I was able to collect. They knew the area very well and where to find the animals. I rented a rifle and it was a great shooting gun (my shot was over 400 yards). Overall just a fantastic experience and it will not be my last hunt with Ignacio.

Hector and Gina have a wonderful staff and they were excellent at providing us the exact experience we were looking for. They tailored the hunts and locations so we were able to encounter large quantities of doves. You are only limited by time and number of shells you choose to purchase. Hospitality was excellent. Food was delicious and presented beautifully. Would definitely return here and recommend to our friends!

Keith and his brother, made me there top priority why I was there, did stay long due to bad weather coming in. Keith was sure to get me out there as soon as I was ready. He got me right on the animals and ended up take two trophy’s home.

Incredible experience and a true mountain hunt

Everything about this hunt was great. It is pretty rare to dream about taking a trip for a long time and actually have it surpass your expectations, but this hunt definitely did that. The hiking was physically challenging but not impossible, it truly felt like we had earned the animal at the end of the hunt. On the second day of hunting we spotted a group with multiple large males about 1.5 miles from base camp. We started hiking in the morning and both my dad and I were successful in taking mature males from that group. Overall it was an incredible experience and would highly recommend to anyone looking for an adventure. PS. The hunting rangers were awesome. I couldn’t have asked for a better group to guide us on this hunt.

Awesome lion hunt!

My son Tim and I had an outstanding mountain lion hunt with Ira as our outfitter/guide. I’ve followed hounds for decades, and the work shown by Ira’s dogs was some of the best I’ve ever witnessed. The country ranged from flat desert to rugged, rough terrain, making for a challenging and authentic hunt. Beyond the hunt itself, we were treated to excellent home-cooked meals prepared by Ira’s wife, Kyra, and enjoyed meeting their young boys. This was one of the easiest reviews I’ve ever written—it was a first-class experience all around, we’ll be going back again next year.
If it would have snowed 2 inches every night it would have made things much easier. Of course this was no fault of the outfitter.

The accommodations, food, and hunting property are all outstanding. Alfonso and his crew work hard to ensure that you are comfortable and safe, and have an opportunity to harvest a coues deer.
Tough hunt! The deer were not in full rut yet, so did not see as many bucks, but we ended up harvesting a deer.

Thanks for hunting with us! The weather has been very tough this year with very unusual hot temperatures. The good news is lots of big bucks are still around for next season. We have another record high predicted for tomorrow January 10. It will be around 70 degrees!

Great communication, pulled out the stops to try to get me on a moose, comfortable lodging, GREAT guides and excellent food and camp atmosphere. My guide, Danny made the hunt super enjoyable and got me on my moose! I’m planning on going back!
Hard to come up with anything…big country so not overrun with game, but both of us hunters there for moose got our moose! Not much not to like! Great operation!
