Successful Macnab Challenge

10.0
of 10
The trip immediately started with a catered pickup from the Johannesburg airport, followed by a relaxing drive to a reserve containing breathtaking animals. To say the Big 5 would be an understatement. Following the conclusion, my arrival at the lodge included a welcoming owner, operator, PH, and chef who began explaining the festivities planned for the hunt in the morning. The bonfire, dinner and dessert were delicious (including Kudu game meat). The lodge included my own private kitchen, living room, and clean bedroom. The morning started with a rifle warmup session for acclimating to the top-of-the-line equipment provided and the hunt began. The reserve size was expansive, with 4-wheel transportation everywhere to prevent becoming tired throughout the long and fun day ahead! The macnab challenge included a Guineafowl, Impala, and Bass in the agenda. Guineafowl run quickly and aren’t the largest birds, but the PH and operator ensured we found a suitable location with Guineafowl for action, crossing the Guineafowl off my list. The impala hunting was amazing. Many bucks and herds running and grazing across the land. It was a challenging time throughout the midday as the heat kicked in. We paused for a fantastic brunch ant the lodge, and fished for several hours in a local lake then private Eco-friendly (owned by Rust De Winters) resort that had large mouth bass swimming in the river alongside. An exhilarating catch was in-store and resulted in checking the bass off my list. The owner mentioned that transitioning to a blesbok instead of an impala was an option as the day progressed for more exciting options! Lo and behold, my PH identified a grazing heaven with Blesbok. My operator advised me which animals were fair game, and we setup in the truck. Despite the brush, a visible shot was apparent which concluded the day. We celebrated with another sunset safari to see giraffes and zebras, followed by another excellent meal. I cannot wait to come back, as this was an experience I will NEVER forget. Thank you, Rust De Winters!
The owner, operator, and PH made sure my stay was terrific.

A great hunting trip to Tajikistan

9.7
of 10
The whole trip was fantastic. Exactly the adventure I was looking for. I was picked up from the airport and driven (about 8h on mixed roads) to the West Central area of Tajikistan right into the shadow of Peak Ismoil Somoni. After arrival we overnighted in a small village and ate delicious local food. The next morning, we hiked out to the hunting camp, which consisted of two large wall tents and rugged amenities. The food and the company in camp was both great and the guides (huntsman) appeared knowledgeable and friendly despite the language barrier. (An interpreter was always present to help with communications). The next morning, we headed out to find the Ibex; after a rather challenging 3h hike up in a creek bed and after seeing a brown bear sow with two second year cubs, we reached the headwall of a high basin at about 12000 feet and spotted about 50-60 Ibex bedded on a glacier. We were able to climb above them and successfully harvest a 12-year-old billy with 122 cm horns. I could not be happier. The next day we hiked back to camp, and the day after drove back to Dushanbe. All in all, a trip of a lifetime. I would love to do it again.
Nothing really, the whole experience was great. Maybe the only thing that would have been nice was to know in advance how many guides (huntsman) and other personnel was in camp to be able to tip them adequately. But again, I could have also taken a bit more money with me right of the bat.

Animals are amazing. The property was gorgeous and had perfect mix of cover and open. Animals were difficult to hunt but the PH was a good tracker and got us on game multiple times. It was a true adventure and wonderful hunt experience for me and my daughter.
Nothing to not like. The owner was very nice to work with. The PH was amazing. Property was gorgeous.

Thank you for a great and fun time. It was wonderful to go on a hunt with this group. I look forward to coming back again.
I wish I had the opportunity to get elk, but that's why they call it hunting.

Hunt of a Lifetime

**Everything went perfectly. To understand how unique this horseback hunt truly is, you need to know a few details.** First of all, Dustin is running a huge company, which makes it even more impressive how quickly he responds to inquiries (as long as he has cell service – something that is far from guaranteed in the Yukon, and everyone should understand that). I was fortunate enough to be flown into base camp on a beautiful day. This was the starting point for our 9-day hunt, and there I met my guide and wrangler. Another team was also in camp at that time. The friendliness and professionalism of those guides were outstanding as well. For anyone worried about running into other hunters: this was the only contact, and we had absolutely no overlap during the hunt. From there we spent nine days in the wilderness. You may stay in tents, in small cabins, or – like in base camp – in a larger cabin. The incredible landscape and vastness of this hunting area are simply breathtaking. Traveling by horseback allows you to cover an impressive amount of country. I was lucky – though I believe this applies to all of Dustin’s guides – to be paired with a incredibly hardworking guide and wrangler. Being the last hunter of the season, I was amazed at how hard Tim and Mac were still working after 80 days in the backcountry. This alone gave me complete confidence in everything they did, and that trust is essential. Every hunter, especially European hunters, needs to let go of the idea that you will see game behind every corner. Only then can you enjoy the hunt from the very first day. This is true wilderness, and that affects wildlife behavior. All the more fascinating it is when you finally encounter a moose or another species. If you are fortunate enough to harvest a moose, you will be impressed by the professionalism that follows. From field dressing and quartering the animal, to packing it out, and eventually leaving camp (in my case a full trail-out) – everything was handled with absolute skill and care. It was a worthy ending to a true hunt of a lifetime. I can wholeheartedly recommend Dustin as an outfitter. One small piece of advice: to truly enjoy a horseback hunt, make sure to take a few riding lessons beforehand. **Thank you, Dustin, for making my lifelong dream come true.**

Great hunting area, even better outfitter

My brother and I took our dad on a surprise elk hunting trip and chose to use Texas Wildlife. It was all of our first time elk hunting or hiring a guide. Matthew was knowledgeable, accommodating, and always prepared. He communicated well before the hunt, but didn't over promise. He answered all our many questions and we felt prepared when we arrived. The weather was too warm and the elk were not moving much. Matthew was able to adapt his hunting style every day to what was actually happening. He also took our input and adjusted setups to better fit our preferred hunting style. Matthew was great to talk to. It felt like we were hunting with a new best friend. All of Matthew's equipment, side by sides, etc was in great working order. The property he is guiding on is beautiful and a target rich environment. We saw many elk along with, mule deer, elk, and all kinds of bear sign. (Bear were in hibernation). We all 3 had multiple opportunities at elk and were able to all punch our tags with some time to spare. Even if we would have only harvested one elk we would have thought it was a successful trip. We went to Colorado to try out elk hunting and make some great memories. Matthew made sure we had an excellent trip. We couldn't have asked for anything more.
The weather wasn't great to hunt this year, but that isn't the guides fault. Besides that nothing we loved every minute of the trip.

Had a great hunt with Bob! Missouri had a hot weekend for the rifle opener this year, which made it tough for everyone, but everyone still saw deer and at least one good buck. Half of us were tagged out with nice bucks by the second evening (myself included) I will be back!
Mandatory CWD check stations. (I'm sure Bob would agree with this one) If you get a deer opening weekend you will have to bring it in to a local check station on the day of harvest, so plan accordingly!

Our hunting team successfully accommodated my wife’s dietary restrictions. Their hospitality was second to none.
I would have liked to come to camp better prepared. More communication between outfitter and clients would have been extremely helpful. It wasn’t until last minute that we were told where to meet and what to expect.

Very nice/clean housing. The owner took me out to the stands he thought had the best game traffic for my hunt. Even offered me his truck to retrieve my game if I didn't wanna use mine. Taught me a lot as a new hunter and provided 99% of what I needed! Will absolutely be back next year and looking forward to my turkey hunt with him here soon!!
Nothing!! It was an incredible time, I had a blast! Didn't walk away with a buck, but thats not the owners fault or mine. Can't control the weather!! But I did walk away with a nice doe and meat in the freezer.... not to mention an extremely pleasant week!!

Eastern Cape Spiral-Horn Hunt

10.0
of 10
We hunted with Juan and Lauren in early October 2025 after booking a 4-animal spiral-horn package. I am STILL excited a month later! This hunt was absolutely incredible! My initial package had included Waterbuck, Eland, Nyala, and Bushbuck. Additionally, we had expressed interest in taking Fallow Deer, Caracal, Bushpig, and Warthog. Ultimately, we took the Waterbuck, Nyala, Bushbuck, and Bushpig from the initial wishlist. We had solid opportunities at trophy Eland and Warthog, but weren't able to follow through. This was entirely on us and had nothing to do with the opportunities or trophy quality. Additionally, we were also able to take White Blesbuck, Black Springbuck, a gorgeous Lechwe and a Duiker when the opportunities for those animals presented. Juan and Lauren worked incredibly hard every single day to make sure that we had a world-class experience, and they succeeded across the board. The hunting was truly world-class. The accommodations at both concessions were incredible. The staff and lodge owners/managers were all very inviting. The meals were superb.......I am hopeful that I can hunt with them again in 2026. Thank you so much, LJ Safaris!
The fact that it ended. I felt like we were just getting warmed up!

Shan and Sali run a great camp. Good accommodations and excellent food (and plenty of it). Harold and Larry were knowledgeable and talented guides. Harold spotted and tracked this "trophy Bull" for two days, sensing where it would be we headed out and eventually were able to take it down. A wonderful hunting experience in the wilderness of Newfoundland.
I can summons anything that I did not like on this hunting trip.

Excellent hunt

Greenland is amazing - hunting in this beautiful country will blow your mind. Loved Erik, Mads and Rasmus. They worked extremely hard to make sure all hunters in our party bagged a quality animal. We went in September - definitely bring good hiking boots; I was thankful to have a waterproof boot- several times we had to walk through water that was ankle height. We hiked roughly 68 miles in 4 days, which is abnormal- most people hike much less to get their animal. Your trip will be better if you are in good shape. Also if you fly in a few days before or after your hunt, staying at the youth hostel is included in the price of the hunt (Erik, the owner also owns the youth hostel). This is a great perk as it is can be expensive to get to Greenland and it is expensive to be there. Would love to return for another hunt with these awesome people. If you are looking to treat the guides, Rass seems like he enjoys bourbon and French cheese. Mads is into Kuiu and Stone Glacier. (It apparently takes six weeks to get any shipping to that country so you can always just ask Erik if guides are in need of something specific :)
Everything about the hunt was amazing. Heads up about Greenland: flights can be unreliable, especially into Nuuk, so prepare yourself. Avoid flying in on the 1st of 15th; that is payday and is apparently spent drinking by the locals, even locals who work at the airports. Also, FYI, the grocery store in Kangerlussauq closes at 1400 on Saturdays, and is not open on Sundays. So, make sure you get yourself some groceries as soon as you land if you are there several days before your hunt. Other than that - book this hunt. You won’t regret it.

1 moose sighting in 10 days

5.0

The camp atmosphere was similar to a Wisconsin hunting camp, which was nice. The guides tried to stay positive for the most part, even though the group didn’t see many moose.
Not what I was exactly expecting. Was hoping to see more wildlife, and the occasional moose. I wish our guide would have been more aggressive a few days towards the end of the hunt. We spent 9 of the 10 days trying to call them out of where they thought the moose were. We got more aggressive on the last day and ended up seeing 1 moose during the last hour of a 10 day hunt, unfortunately I did not get a shot. 2 out of the 4 hunters didn’t even see a moose until the 7th day. Also, I would not recommend buying the extra whitetail tag…I only saw 1 whitetail buck in 10 days and no one else in our camp killed one. I was hoping for more, but ultimately left unsatisfied. It’s a big gamble on maybe a 10 second window at 1 moose.
