Giant forest hog hunting in Cameroon
We found 1 hunt
Giant Forest Hogs are considered the largest, meanest and rarest wild hog that can be hunted in the rainforests of Africa. This massive blackish-grey to jet black pigs are heavily built with an elongated body, long limbs and rump that stands higher than their shoulders. Large swollen excrescences can be seen on the face just below the eyes with tushes (tusks) protruding from the mouth.
Giant Forest Hogs can be hunted in the dense forests and high mountains of Cameroon.
When forest hunting these pigs are often heard before being seen due to their noisy vocalisations and feeding habits. They are often hunted as a species of opportunity when encountered. Alternatively, they can be hunted walk and stalk style in the vicinity of salt licks and marshy areas. They may also be still hunted from a “machan” (raised platform) overlooking a forest glade or ambushed when walking along well-used paths when travelling between the forested areas and the open savannahs. Their eyesight is very poor and they do not cope well with direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. Like most pigs, they have a phenomenal sense of smell.
Giant Forest Hog is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special import or export permits are required. A pre-purchased hunting license is required before shooting a hog. Trophies exported to the USA need to comply with the USDA trophy import regulations.
