Duck hunting in Zimbabwe

Duck hunting is mainly conducted by local hunters and a few outfitters who offer this more as a filler during a safari. The country offers a great variety of Ducks with 16 species on offer as well as 3 Goose species. The most commonly hunted species are the White-faced Whistling Duck, Fulvous Whistling Duck, Knob-billed or Comb Duck and Yellow-billed Duck. Ducks can be hunted throughout the country and their range distribution is determined by habitat suitability and rainfall patterns. Many of the country’s hunting big game hunting concessions have seasonal pans (oxbows) that provide some excellent seasonal Duck shooting opportunities. Unless you are a bird collector these opportunities are often overlooked by hunters targeting the four-legged species in these areas. Ducks are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required besides the standard Zimbabwe hunting license which will be arranged by your outfitter.
