More about us

Our company was established in 1992 and operates in 1 territory.
  • Dale and Lori Adams have lived in Sitka, Alaska since 1986. Dale has operated his boats as a commercial fisherman longlining for halibut and black cod, and served as a fish packer and tenderman for various salmon fisheries.
  • Starting in 1988 he worked as an assistant guide under legendary bear guide, Ben Forbes, who had been guiding in Southeast Alaska since 1946. In 1992 Dale and Lori started their own guide business, Adams Alaskan Safari’s, and have been guiding hunters, sightseeing groups and research teams throughout the remote fjords and bays of Southeast Alaska ever since.
  • Dale Adams holds a Master’s guides license. He is a member of the Alaska Professional Hunter’s Association and served for 3 terms on their board of directors. He has been instrumental in helping shape hunting and guiding regulations throughout the state. He’s passionate about hunting and will be on board every trip taking only 2-3 hunters per trip in a effort to provide the best fair chase hunts possible.
  • Lori has been by Dale’s side almost every step of the way. She does most of the cooking and tries to help keep things running as smoothly as possible. Her small commercial garden provides produce for many of the wonderful meals she serves up in the galley.

About this hunt

Black bear hunting takes place in the spring and fall. While Black Bears enjoy the same mild climate, along with beach grass and streams filled with thousands of salmon, they live on separate islands from the Brown Bears, which means no competition for fish -therefore they become giants for their species. Newly classified as “Island Black Bears”, mature boars can square 7 to 8 feet and weigh 400-800 lbs. These bears have superior quality hides that rival any in the world. Boat based Brown Bear and Black bear hunts in southeast Alaska Based out of Sitka Alaska, Spring hunts consist of cruising the shoreline glassing for bear or sitting in the tidal meadows as the bears come out to feed on the new spring vegetation, Fall hunts take place up the many small salmon streams on the islands as the bears gorge themselves on the thousands of salmon spawning in the creeks.
