More about us
Our company was established in 1978 and operates in 1 territory.
- First licensed to provide guiding service in 1978 by the Alberta Government, We provide a combination of experience in Gene Plihal and the vitality and youthful exuberance of Emily Plihal, 15 year veteran guide and new co-owner, along with documented rights to hunting area.
- With 53 allocations (licenses) for moose, black bear, mule deer and whitetail deer, we represent one of the larger outfitters in the Peace/Smoky River area. Boasting 40 years in business without a wildlife or criminal offense, we have one of the cleanest, long standing outfitting records in Alberta. This is four decades with an impeccable record.
- Equally impressive, we think, is that our business has never been asked to appear before the disciplinary committee of the Alberta Professional Outfitters' Society, and in a business brimming with potential ethics and conduct issues, we think this is an achievement.

Beyond my expectations
The honesty and integrity of the outfitter was exceptional. I was told before booking that these moose are not the Yukon nor Alaskan type or size antlered moose. The other hunters at the lodge and myself where all there with the same understanding. I was given a report a week ahead, that the weather was not cooperating (staying way to warm), and it was going to be a difficult hunt. We walked and saw so much game the first 3 days that I was resolved to have had a great hunt without a bull spotted at that point and I would have gone home defeated and happy. My stamina gave way on the 4th day and these professionals were constantly monitoring all hunters' conditions and adjusted our hunting strategy accordingly. Every day they woke up they worked their tails off, that successfully paid off on the fifth day. My guide spotted a three-year-old bull in a field and we were able to get within 200yds and harvest that bull. I am a former rancher and outfitter from Colorado west slope. I am not sure I ever put on as great an elk hunt as these folks do moose. Oh, the food, chef Lucienne can prepare the most amazing fare I've seen at any lodge. I have seen hunters just sit around camp and eat all day when the food is half that good just a warning. I hope I left enough gratuity because I pray to be lucky enough to return one day.
I did not like how hard it was to dig up any constructive feedback for these folks as I believe they truly welcome that but, this was truly the trip of a lifetime for me. I came to gather food and an experience that was under sold and over delivered to me.
High quality outfitter
Lots of game, excellent food and lodging. Gene and his family do everything they can to ensure that the hunt is successful.
Great hunt
Animal populations were off the chart. I think the combination of COVID-19 and a mild winter, created the best hunt imaginable. Lots of large bulls and other wildlife.,,
Hunting from stands. I enjoy walking, calling, and stalking. Guide listened and accommodated my requests.
