More about us

Our company was established in 2015 and operates in 3 territories.
  • Here at Free-Range Hunting New Zealand, we are proud to be one of New Zealand’s few FULLY Free Range outfitters.
  • Offering some of the best hunting for genuinely wild Red stag and Fallow buck to be found in NZ as well as Wilderness style mountain hunts for Red stag, Tahr and Chamois.
  • Our private and exclusive property ranges over 20,000 acres of Southern Wairarapa coastal hill country, which is located on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand. Here we encounter a wide variety of terrain and hunting conditions, large native Podocarp forest, scrub lands (reverted pasture) and open grass pastures makes for the perfect environment for both the deer and the hunter.
  • During the Roar (rut), the master stags tend to herd the hinds (does) into the native forest. This provides thrilling close encounter type hunting as we are often able to call the stags into close proximity. After the Roar, the stags tend to drift out of the forest and feed on the grass adjacent, recouping after the rigours of the mating season. This type of hunting is more about the use of binoculars and often some longer range shooting. This time of year often produces the biggest stags.
  • With our doc concession we operate our Wilderness hunts in the Mountains of the South Island of New Zealand. This is a true adventure style hunt where we either helicopter into the mountains and set up a base camp which we then hunt out from, or we can hike into the mountains and spike camp as we go. Either way this is a truely rewarding hunting adventure.
  • NZPHGA Registered Professional Hunting Outfitter.

Where you will stay

Recommendations:
Accommodation included. After a day's hunting, we retreat to our comfortable, purpose-built lodge/ hunting camp - on most occasions, you will have the camp to yourself. Our lodge, by New Zealand standards, is seen as been very remote. Nestled into the native bush, we literally have wild game on our doorstep. An hours 4x4 driving from the nearest residential dwelling and with views looking out to the Pacific Ocean, it is a very easy place to relax and feel like you are away from the world. Fully carpeted floors, comfortable beds, warm fires, wifi, yes wifi, and great cuisine make for a welcome retreat from the rigours of a day’s hunting. The lodge consists of 2 bunk rooms each with 5 beds. Guests will have the lodge to themselves as staff have their own cabins.
