About this hunt

We fly out to the highlands north of Kangerlussuaq, where there is alot of big caribou, and also a fine population of musk-ox. Hunt is done as normal spot and stalk, and we got boats in nearby lakes so we can get easier around. All trophy and meat still have to be carried back to camp, we all help eachother to do that. Camp is tentcamp, big kitchentent and smaller tents with mattresses for each hunter. Its a 5 hunter tour. Departure from Kangerlussuaq 15/8 2024. You shall arrive the 14th at noon since all luggage must be tjeked in at airgreenland the day before we fly out. Return to Kangerlussuaq 23/8 2024 Please notice that the helicopter is also search and rescue, so if its out on a mission, pickup and return kan be dealyed. For each hunter 1 musk-ox + 1 caribou is included. And after that if there is time, small game hunt on snowhare, arctic fox and raven. Its not possible to add extra animals on this hunt due to weight and volume in the helicopter. You can book this hunt as a single hunter, but there is no room for nonhunters due to helicopter max load limit. The meat can not be exported according to the EU regulations, but you can bring up to 10 kg with you on your flight out of Greenland (please check meat import rules for your country). All harvested meat is used, either for human consumption, or as dogfood for my dogs depending on the quality. There is 5 full huntingdays Day 0. Arrival at Kangerlussuaq. (please notice you arrive the day before we fly out on the hunt) Day 1. We fly out and set up camp, and prepare everything. Days 2-6. Hunting Day 7 We pack everything down, and fly back to town. Day 8 We recommend a resting day in town (a tour to the icecap can be arranged) Day 9 Hunters fly back home. Each hunter can bring 20 kg of luggage. And no hand luggage allowed on helicopter.

Success rate

We have about 98 % success rate for caribou, most are large animals. For Muskox our autumn succes rate is about 95%, and almost all animals are old bulls. But it is significantly more demanding than caribou hunting due to the weight of the trophies and meat, so the hunter must be able to carry his 35-45 kg trophy by himself. So hunting Muskox in autumn is extreme hunting, only for the wery well trained hunter. Caribou in our hunting area (sub area 5) is a free-range indigenous north american ”Central barren ground caribou”. But even though it's documented by the Greenland Nature Institute, not all hunting organisations see it that way, so SCI does not accept it into the SCI 29 Award. But Grand Slam Club Ovis accepts it into the Super Slam award. So please check it with you organisation if you are going for a award.

Where you will hunt

Territory

We take a helicopter to fly far away to an area with a lot of big caribou, and a fine musk.ox population also. Trophies and meat still have to be carried back to camp, and all have to help with that, but these are often shorter distances. Depending on where the animals are, the camp will be next to some lakes, so transportation partially can be done with boats.

Where you will stay

Camp

Camp is a basic tent camp with small sleeping tents one pr persons with mattress, and a bigger kitchen tent for eating, drying clothes etc. There will be inflatable sleeping mats. There will be 1 guide per 2 hunters, and there will be some work with cutting meat, salting and drying meat, skinning and preservation of trophies, and different camp work. So it's necessary that everybody helps out so that the guides have time enough for everything. We bring normal food, breakfast products, bread and cold meats, and we eat the meat from the animals we shoot, with potatoes and rice etc. After the hunt you stay at Kangerlussuaq Youth Hostel as included in the price.

How to get there

Navigation guidelines

When you fly here, then you travel to Copenhagen airport in Denmark, from there you fly with Air Greenland to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland, where we pick you up at the airport. It is possible to fly over Keflavik in Iceland to Nuuk and then Kangerlussuaq. But it can give some problems with delays and luggage, and the price is almost the same. So we do not recommend that route. Even thow is possible to fly direct over Copenhagen, its more safe to stay overnight in Copenhagen, and if you come from far away like the US, then 2 nights is better. Its up to you to get here on the correct date. You must bring your home country hunting permit and/or weapons permit. This is required by the hunting adminstration. When bringing your own hunting rifle you also need to bring the weapon papers for that rifle to show at check on with the Airlines. Check in with hunting rifle at AirGreenland takes about 30 min extra because of paperworks, and the weapon has to be handed over at a special counter. But this is not complicated to bring a hunting rifle.

Quality trophy hunt.

9.0 of 10

Guides were very knowledgeable of the area. There was a lot of game and trophy quality animals.

The food was sub par. We ate the same thing every day. I was unaware of the exchange rate between US dollar and Denmark currency. This added an extra 800+ dollars to my trip. Also the cost that the outfitter charged to ship my trophies from Greenland to Denmark seemed higher than the actual cost of shipping. Once an animal is down the guide takes it back to camp. It’s the Hunter’s responsibility to take the trophies out of camp at the completion of the hunt. This hike is extremely difficult and not suited for most hunters. Or you can pay the outfitter. This can be very pricey. The reason why they charge to get your trophies out is because most Foreign hunters do not tip. American hunters tip so there is a bit of confusion. What I did learn is if you pay the guide to take your trophies out the fees that they charge is their tip. I carried my trophies out myself and tipped due to the confusion

Professional outfitters

9.7 of 10

Eric was take a good care of us, providing enough food supplied , warmed cabin and even place to stay after hunting. This outffiter is strongly recommended if you want to look for real greenlandic hunting experience. Better physical fitness required to enjoy this type of hunt. Eric and his crew are really good Caribou and musox hunter, tons of experience.

no complaint, i do like all of their services

Excellant value and unique hunt

9.0 of 10

Expected and enjoyed the hands-on participation. Basic but good equipment, food, and supplies. Strong muskox population and medium sized caribou.

Tough 4hr hike in and out on musk keg bottom.
