Alaska Brown Bear Hunt

Nushagak River: Unit 17 - This river represents one of the most important fishery habitats in southwest Alaska. This pristine area has scattered forest of spruce with open tundra flats and rolling hills. The high river bluffs make short hikes for glassing animals easy. Huge runs of salmon start running up river in early June. Char, Trout, Dollies, and Grayling also fill the river.All five species of salmon spawn in the Nushagak River, which makes it prime in brown bear hunting. Our brown bear hunts take place in Southwest Alaska, in game management Unit 17, on the Nushagak/Mulchatna rivers. There is a 2 brown bear limit for nonresidents, and the season is open on August 20 until May 31. We hunt trophy brown bears in the spring from May 1-May 31. What will you expect on a day of hunting bears with me? We will hunt in the hills and float the rivers and back creeks. The area has the largest concentration of wild salmon spawning in the world, so there are plenty of opportunities to find bears along the river or up in the hills (where they feed on berries). The brown bears that we take will range from 8-10 feet.
