Where to hunt Crawshay's Zebra

Crawshay’s Zebra have very narrow stripes and may be easily confused with Boehm’s Zebra as their distribution overlaps in some areas. For this reason, most outfitters just market Zebra as Plains Zebra (Burchell’s) as each animal’s stripe pattern is unique, much like a fingerprint and the choice of colouration and stripe patterns is left to the eye of the beholder. This subspecies of Plains Zebra can be hunted in Eastern Zambia, southern Tanzania and northern Mozambique.

Crawshay’s Zebra may appear on price lists in Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania. Trophy fees for this species range from $1250-2000. There is an extreme variation in the daily rates that often depends on the other species that may be targeted during your hunt. In Mozambique, the daily rates for the Niassa area start at around $800 a day, whilst in Tanzania, the daily rates may be as high as $3580 per day.

When to hunt Crawshay's Zebra?

Crawshay’s Zebra may only be hunted during the respective hunting seasons in Zambia, Mozambique and Tanzania that open after the rains when the roads and tracks become passable again. These seasons are as follows: Mozambique: 1 April – 30 November Tanzania: I July - 31 December Zambia - 1 May - 30 November

These highly social animals are extremely alert and have good hearing and eyesight. They are bulk grazers feeding on long grass and always found in close proximity to water. They are generally hunted spot and stalk style in the early morning and late afternoon whilst grazing. During the heat of the day, they can often be found standing in the shade of a tree on high alert.
