The Western Savannah Buffalo is an intermediate sized Buffalo falling between the Nile Buffalo (subspecies similar to the Cape Buffalo) found from the CAR to Uganda and the Dwarf Buffalo. These reddish coloured Buffalo are hunted in the savanna regions of the country and have the horn shape similar to those of the Dwarf Buffalo to which they are more closely related.
Two subspecies of Dwarf Buffalo occur in the forests of Cameroon, the Red, Dwarf or Congo Buffalo and the Forest Dwarf Buffalo. For the SCI record keeping purposes both are Listed as Dwarf Forest Buffalo. These are by far the smallest of the Buffalo group and are reddish in colour with ear tassels and small horns.
