Spurfowl is a terrestrial gamebird that feeds on insects, grass tussocks, vegetable matter and seeds. They have a hooked upper beak, well-suited for digging and will also dig for food. They are fast flying and can make for some challenging shooting.
Spurfowl may often be referred to as part of the Francolin group. 6 Spurfowl Species can be hunted in Tanzania, namely, the Scaly Spurfowl, Yellow-necked Spurfowl, Red-necked Spurfowl, Hildebrandt's Spurfowl, Ring-necked Spurfowl which is near threatened in Tanzania and the endemic Grey-breasted Spurfowl.
Distribution and availability vary from area to area.
