Goose hunting in Tanzania is limited to three species and are mainly hunted by collectors. The three species are: Egyptian Goose, an African endemic but now introduced to many parts of the world. They have grey to buffy brown plumage and pink legs. The males have a distinctive dark spot on their breasts. When in flight, their bright white forewing is very noticeable. The birds are very territorial. Spur-winged Goose is Africa’s biggest goose and is the size of a Snow Goose. This goose is predominantly black with varying amounts of white on the head, belly and wings. African Pygmy-Goose, is Africa’s most beautiful duck-size waterfowl species and is not as well camouflaged as most other predominately smaller brown ducks. However, their colours blend in well amongst their preferred habitat which is swampy type areas covered with water lilies. Distribution and availability vary from area to area and the seasonal availability of suitable water habitats. A list of huntable species and the best season for such a hunt should be discussed with your Outfitter. Bird hunting licenses must be purchased before going on safari.
