Golden Gemsbuck hunting in Namibia

The Golden Gemsbok is a genetically manipulated colour variant bred by game ranchers from the regular Gemsbok, also known as an Oryx. This species occurs predominantly in the arid and semi-arid areas of Namibia. They are also found on well-drained bushveld soils, the central plateau, and the mountainous regions of the country. Golden Gemsbok hunts in Namibia are limited due to availability, as many ranches are still trying to breed their numbers up. Additionally, the current high trophy fees act as a deterrent to many trophy hunters. As their numbers increase, trophy fees are expected to become more realistic, as has been the case with many other colour-variant species. Golden Gemsbok is not recognized by the SCI record book and is classified the same as a Southern or Common Gemsbok as a species of least concern by the IUCN. No special permits are required to hunt these magnificent and impressive beasts.
