Bushpig are reddish-brown in colour and have a similar social structure to their European Wild Boar counterparts. Sounders are dominated by a dominant boar and the piglets are born brown with yellow stripes. They are normally found near water where they rest up in the thick undergrowth and long grass during the day. Bushpig can be hunted throughout the country with the highest density of Bushpig are to be found in the western swampy regions of the country whilst the lowest density occurs in the semi-arid regions of Masailand. Bushpig hunting in Tanzania is normally conducted as a driven hunt with beaters shouting and beating the long grass with sticks, especially around marshy areas. When the pig breaks cover, hunters are expected to shoot them whilst on the run. If you are not used to shooting running targets, you will need to practice shooting a running target. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special import or export permits are required. When exported to the United States USDA trophy importation regulations will apply. A minimum of a 10-day hunting license is required to hunt Bushpig in Tanzania.
