Blue Duiker hunting in Cameroon
We found 1 hunt
Blue Duiker is a rabbit-size Duiker with long legs. This small Duiker gets its name from its blue-grey coat. Populations living in wet forest areas tend to be much darker than those living in more open drier forests. They are exceptionally difficult to see on the dark forest floor and their presence is often given away by a flickering tail.
Blue Duiker may be hunted in the forested areas of Cameroon.
These diurnal animals feed on fruit, flowers and leaves, often following feeding monkeys and birds, picking up the fallen fruit dropped onto the forest floor. Shotguns and heavy calibres with solids are used to hunt these animals so as not to destroy their delicate coats. They are often called into range by the Pygmy trackers using homemade reed callers. The call used, sounds like the distress call of a small antelope or rabbit.
Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required. A prearranged license must be purchased before the hunt begins.
