Blackbuck hunting in South Africa {{ totalToursString }}
Blackbuck are also known as the Indian Antelope. It is native to India and Nepal. I was formerly widespread throughout Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh where it is now locally extinct. Under the current Indian Wildlife Act, these animals may not be hunted in their homeland. Blackbuck have been introduced to Argentina, Australia, the USA and South Africa where they may be hunted. Their distribution is limited to a few game ranches in the Free State, Eastern and Northern Cape.
This medium to small size antelope stands about 74 to 84 cm (29 to 33 in) at the shoulder. The females are normally hornless and lighter in colour. The males are dark brown to black with a white belly and the inside of the legs. They have long ringed corkscrew type horns.
Blackbuck are short grass diurnal feeders, grazing mostly the early morning at dusk. During the heat of the day they tend to be less active.
Blackbuck is listed as a species of least concern by the IUCN.
