About this hunt

We’re excited to offer Spring Black Bear Hunts in the majestic mountains of Central Montana! This hunt includes guide services, home-cooked meals, game handling, comfortable accommodations and BIG SKY BEARS! After a full day afield, you’ll return to the camp where you can unwind, share stories and enjoy a home cooked meal before catching a good night’s rest. Licensing Details: Montana Black Bear Licenses are available over the counter for our area. License applicants must complete a free, online Black Bear identification certification. More info provided at booking. Location & Transportation: This hunt will take place near Checkerboard, MT on about 70k acres of both private and public land in and around the Helena-Lewis & Clark National Forest. Guests typically fly into Bozeman, MT the day before the hunt, rent a vehicle and arrive in camp by 3pm (about a 2 hour drive). From camp, we’ll provide transportation to and from the field for the duration of your stay. Success Ratio: Typically, 70% or better shooting opportunity on a mature black bear. Hunt Style & Terrain: This is a traditional spot & stalk style hunt. We are able to easily access most of our hunting areas by vehicle and generally hoof it from there. The areas we hunt are not terribly difficult to navigate (in terms of typical mountain country) but may range from 5k feet in elevation near the river bottom to about 7k feet in the timbered draws, foothills, and mountain parks. Meals & Accommodations: This hunt is conducted out of a very comfortable and fully outfitted wall tent style camp that includes separate tents for dining versus sleeping as well as shower and toilet facilities. Home cooked meals will be served each evening with lunches in the field or back at camp and breakfast before departing on each day’s hunt.
