Livingstone Eland hunting in Namibia

Livingstone Eland resembles the darker East African Eland, also known as Patterson’s Eland the further north you go in Africa. Body wise they are bigger than the Cape Eland and have distinctive small white stripes normally visible on the shoulder area. As with most Eland, the younger bulls generally have longer horns than the more mature bulls that are darker in colour and have impressive dewlaps with a tuft of hair on their foreheads which all adds to their character. Hunting and tracking a Livingstone Eland on foot can be one of the most rewarding fair chase hunting experiences. Livingstone Eland are mostly hunted under these conditions in the large government hunting concessions in the Caprivi. Livingstone Eland and Cape Eland will readily interbreed and one of the reasons why the SCI record book lists all Eland hunted south of Etosha National Park as Cape Eland. Should you wish to enter your trophy into this record book, you must ensure that you hunt your Livingstone Eland north of the designated game fence. Livingstone Eland are classified as species of least concern by the IUCN and no special permits are required to hunt these magnificent beasts.
