The Central African Republic, as the name suggests, lies in the center of Africa, a bit north to the equator, between Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, and Cameroon. Most of the country is covered by savannah, with some steppes and semi deserts on the north-east, and rainforests on the south-west.

The Central African Republic lies well away from the usual safari destinations such as South Africa or Tanzania. It lies in the northern savannah belt, between the equator and the Sahara desert, in the northern part of Africa. This area is home to many amazing game species. Apart from Big Five members like lions and leopards, there are such unique animals as Lord Derby eland, sitatunga, bongo, Defassa waterbuck, harnessed bushbuck, red river hog, Buffon kob, and more. Few hunters have explored this amazing land, that could be one of Africa’s last frontiers. Unfortunately, the CAR has been an area of a civil war that’s going almost nonstop for the last several decades. The savannah parts of the Central African Republic are perfectly suited for the classic African hunting methods such as spot-and-stalk. For species like buffalo, the PH and the hunter sometimes cruise the back roads until they see tracks of a bull or herd that has recently crossed the road, and begin tracking. In the rainforest zone more non-orthodox methods may be applied, such as hunting with native trackers and the packs of their dogs, as well as making controlled burns, waiting until fresh grass grows over, and waiting on high seats for the animals that love to feed on it.
