Forest Elephant hunting in Cameroon
We found 1 hunt
Forest Elephants, also known as Pygmy Elephants are slightly smaller than Savannah Elephants and found in scattered pockets across the humid forests of West Africa. They carry mostly yellowish, straight downward pointing tusks that are thinner and denser (harder) than their close relatives. This ivory is referred to as rose ivory as it is often stained from plant juices giving them a pinkish dark-brown colouring.
Cameroon is one of the few countries that offers Forest Elephants for hunting.
Forest Elephants live in family groups and they are an arrhythmic species, meaning they can see just as well in dim light as they can in the daylight, although in general, they have poor eyesight. Elephants rely heavily on their sense of hearing and smell, using their trunks to locate and detect food. They also communicate with each other by using very low-frequency sounds and by sensing seismic vibrations through the soft skin on the pads of their feet.
Forest Elephant hunting licenses must be purchased before starting your safari. Contrary to Cameroon’s CITES allocation, Elephant trophy imports from Cameroon are prohibited by the USF&W, Australia and EU who have declared these Elephant populations as threatened.
