Dove hunting in Namibia

Dove hunting may be limited to a few species but can be a hot-barrelled affair when sitting at a waterhole in the hot dry desert conditions. Primarily, 5 species of Dove are hunted. These species include European Turtle-dove, Mourning Collared-dove, Red-eyed Dove, Ring-necked Dove and Laughing Dove. Doves can be hunted throughout the country. The best hunting is in the semi-arid regions of Namibia. Many hunters enjoy shooting Doves whilst in wait for Sandgrouse flying in to drink at a watering point. The mid-morning Dove drinking frenzy can allow for some great bird shooting action. Doves are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
