Cape Bushbuck hunting in South Africa

Cape Bushbuck, a medium-sized antelope and member of the spiral-horned group. A nocturnal animal that will feed in the more open areas under the cover of darkness and return to its bushy habitat during the day. They are most often hunted along forest margins and clearings in heavily wooded areas. Cape Bushbuck occur along the eastern seaboard of the country and stretching inland as far west as the forests of the Drakensberg Mountain foothills. They are particularly abundant along the Eastern Cape coastline and valley bushveld as well as the sugar cane fields and inland mist forests of KwaZulu-Natal. The males colour varies from dark grey in the Cape to chocolate brown in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. Bushbuck have keen eyesight and often tend to freeze rather than take flight when danger approaches. If they feel threatened, they make a dog-like bark alarm call and dash off into the undergrowth. Cornered or wounded Bushbuck will attack a pursuing hunter or dog, so be forewarned should you end up in such a situation. Cape Bushbuck are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special import or export permits are required. A license is required to hunt Bushbuck in some provinces especially if they are hunted outside a registered high fence game ranch.
