Brown bear hunting in Alaska

Brown bear hunting in Alaska ({{totalToursString}})

The range of the Brown Bear covers almost the whole state of Alaska, but the highest concentrations are found on coastal areas, where the bruins feed on salmon runs. That’s where they rich truly impressive size. The biggest brown bears in the world inhabit Kodiak Island. The bigger and somewhat more peaceful animals in the coastal areas are usually referred to as brown bears, while the somewhat smaller and more aggressive bears of the inland are often called grizzly bears. There are two brown bear seasons in Alaska: the spring and the fall. The spring season typically offers better skin quality, and the bears that have just left the dens may be easier to spot and stalk. However, it is not open in all areas. The autumn season is longer and offers better opportunities to combine a bear hunt with a deer or moose hunt or fishing. Spot-and-stalk is the preferred method of hunting, although baiting and even calling may sometimes be used, too. Brown bear hunting in Alaska is an expensive proposition. Coastal hunts for Kodiak monsters in other places where you can hope to harvest a 10’ trophy top the price list. Non-residents can only hunt brown bears in Alaska if accompanied by a professional guide or a resident who is a close relative. You will typically have to travel into the wilderness by a boat or bush plane. This is really a dangerous game hunting - a brown bear can cover 15 yards faster than many hunters can work the bolt of their rifle, so carry a big stick and practice using it. But few hunts in the world can compare to a close encounter with a big brown bear!

Why do I see different types of prices?
There are two types of hunts on our platform: Package Hunts and Customizable Hunts. Package Hunts are fixed offers. Customizable Hunts usually allow you to select species and other parameters (number of hunters and guests, etc.) and then you can see the final price of your hunt.

"Package price" tag - this price tag is shown for package hunts, and it's a final price for an offer.

"Price from" tag - we show this tag for customizable hunts either when you search for particular species or when there is only one type of species in an offer. In both cases we include the minimum trophy fee available for this type of animal. It means that you see the final price of the offer, but you can also customize it (e.g. you can include a bigger trophy into your hunt).

"Daily rate fee" tag - this price does NOT include trophy fee. For example, if you are searching for a destination and we can't figure out the species you want, then we show this tag. You will need to include trophies from a hunt page.

Spring Coastal Brown Bear Hunt 1x1 Alaska, USA

Spring Brown Bear hunts are my personal favorite because of long daylight hours and mild weather. Spring bear hunts can be booked as combination Black Bear and Brown Bear hunts. We often hunt the favorite spring feeding areas of bears, which include horsetail ferns in open areas between shrub alder clumps and exposed snow slides, which are favorite places for bears to forage for winter-kill mountain goats. In some instances, we may take a stand along game trails and open river bottoms, or we may opt to utilize spot and stalk methods on the mountainsides immediately above camp. Spring bears are generally active throughout all daylight hours, with peak hunting activity in the late evening, often via moonlight, which is legal in Alaska. Being situated at a high vantage point with an electronic predator call and a remote speaker located at a lower elevation promises expanded opportunities to observe and judge predatory spring bears as they travel hundreds of yards to locate the sound of a bear cub in distress, or the plaintive call of a moose calf. One early-season, high-probability, spring hunt takes place where Brown Bears that have just emerged from hibernation walk right past one of my privately-owned cabins while in rout to the first green-up food source of the year. During a portion of any hunt we may use one of five remote hunting cabins, a tent camp, or hunt directly from my 1923 homestead log cabin. Hunters should arrive a day before a hunt starts, and depart a day after it ends.

Brown Bear - 2023 Alaska, USA

The low hunting pressure in the Sugarloaf exclusive guide use area gives hunters a great chance at harvesting potential record book brown bears that travel into and out of the Katmai Park, where hunting is prohibited. With the large concentrations of brown bears moving throughout the preserve, helps harbor some of the largest brown bears in the state. With a limited amount of permits and pressure, we focus on mature boars in the 9 foot class, with bears averaging over 9’10 for the last 5 years. With ten foot bears around, patience is the name of the game. We offer one 12 day hunt option, the 12 day hunt consists of 10 full days of hunting and the extra two days are used for travel in and out of the field. Wolf harvest in the fall is at no extra charge, as long as the hunting season is open. Oct 6 – Oct 17: Hunters will need to fly into Anchorage on October 4th and into King Salmon on October 5th. Transportation into the field will occur on October 6th to start hunting on October 7th. Transportation out of the field with be on October 17th. Lodging in the field: One 10 x 10 sleep tent and a 10 x 10 or 8 x 8 cook tent will be used. Tents will be of the highest quality and include Alaska Tent and Tarp Arctic Ovens, Bombshelter tents, Cabela’s Outfitter tents or a combination. Meals will consist mostly of fresh cooked meals and then freeze dried meals towards hunts end. Modifications can be made upon request.

'21 Alaska Brown Bear Spring Hunt Alaska, USA

We hunt bears in unit 17 and 19 from our camp in western Alaska. The bears in unit 17 are considered brown bears and the bears in unit 19 are considered grizzly bears by SCI. Bears in these areas average around 8-8.5 feet square. There are many drainages that have salmon runs in our area, so the bears have plenty to eat. Bear season for us starts Aug 20 th and runs until October 1st in the fall and April 20th to may 5th in the spring. During the fall the bears will be found on the creeks fishing for salmon or on the hillsides feeding in the numerous berry patches. The fall hunts will take place out of tented camps located in prime areas near food sources. The spring bear hunts take place form our cabin that is located in prime denning areas. Hunts will be spot and stalk with snow machines, we will be able to cover many miles during a day glassing many different drainages looking for bear deans and moose kills. Western Alaska is home to our Titnuk Camp, located in the Nushagak Hills the camp sits on a ridge that separates the Nushagak drainage and the Kuskokwim drainage. Our hunting area here is over 1500 square miles and contains some of the best brown bear habitat in the area. We take 5 spring brown bear hunters and 10 hunters in the fall. Our average bear from this area averages 8ft square and has a 24in skull. Bear Hunt Season Dates April 25-May 4th Aug 20-30 Sept 1-10 Sept 10-20 Sept 20-30

Alaska Brown Bear Hunt Alaska, USA

Nushagak River: Unit 17 - This river represents one of the most important fishery habitats in southwest Alaska. This pristine area has scattered forest of spruce with open tundra flats and rolling hills. The high river bluffs make short hikes for glassing animals easy. Huge runs of salmon start running up river in early June. Char, Trout, Dollies, and Grayling also fill the river. All five species of salmon spawn in the Nushagak River, which makes it prime in brown bear hunting. Our brown bear hunts take place in Southwest Alaska, in game management Unit 17, on the Nushagak/Mulchatna rivers. There is a 2 brown bear limit for nonresidents, and the season is open on August 20 until May 31. We hunt trophy brown bears in the spring from May 1-May 31. What will you expect on a day of hunting bears with me? We will hunt in the hills and float the rivers and back creeks. The area has the largest concentration of wild salmon spawning in the world, so there are plenty of opportunities to find bears along the river or up in the hills (where they feed on berries). The brown bears that we take will range from 8-10 feet. Our brown bear hunts have high success Experienced Alaskan guides are there to make sure you are getting the most out of your hunting experience We have spring brown bears hunts and fall brown bears hunts every year We hunt in a 2 bear area Use jet boats to increase our range We have comfortable, fully equipped cabins Large, remote areas of state land for hunting brown bear No outfitting pressure Great salmon fishing during fall moose/bear combo hunt
