This northwest corner of Montana has some of the best black bear populations in the lower forty-eight states and opportunities for different color phases from jet black to cinnamon to chocolate are common. We have over 500 square miles of territory here on the Kootenai National Forest in our concession. All bear hunts are 100% fair chase which means no baiting and no running with dogs. The bears we harvest range from five to six and half feet from nose to tail and weigh an average of 200-lbs. Spring bear hunts are most popular and we like to hit the ground and put in the miles. We use all methods of traditional spot and stalk techniques and generally in the spring the bears are found at lower elevations. Upon leaving their dens they make for grass and clover which is their primary food source early in the year. This makes tracking sign a little easier since often times it puts them on logging roads, open meadows, and logged areas.

Elk hunting in the Bob Marshall has been heralded for over 50-years as the quintessential pack in wilderness hunt experience. Every hunter who truly wants the full hunting experience must do a wilderness hunt at least once in his or her life. We are pleased to offer the ultimate wilderness pack in elk hunt. The area Salmon Forks has assigned under permit with the USFS, is truly unique and allows the outfit to vary trip offerings to cater to the needs and abilities of our hunters. With over thirteen drainages within a five mile radius of the camp, we can run day hunts from the camp, or “spike out” for few days to get closer to spotted game. One of the standout features of hunting elk in the Bob Marshall Wilderness is that it is one of the few places in the country that you can hunt elk during the rut with a rifle! Our hunts run from September 14 to October 16, a full 6 weeks prior to the rest of the state opening for elks hunt for the general season. This early season hunt format is convenient for folks who want to hunt the West, but get back to their home state for their opening season.
