Great Hunt

The first thing to consider is that you are hunting in Greenland. It is going to be cold. The hunting cabin was actually better than the outfitter described. Although it had no water, because of freezing temperatures, it was warm and comfortable. Before the trip, you will be housed at a hostel, again it was very nice and extremely clean and comfortable. The food was not fancy, but was very good. The hunting was off of snow-machines, then stalking. We saw good quality bulls and were able to stalk into good positions. I harvested two nice bulls, then also had time to hunt ptarmigan, snow hares, and arctic fox. Also did a little ice fishing.Guides were very knowledgeable and worked hard to ensure a good trip. I was able to bring about 10 lbs of meat home; although, wasn't sure it would make it through customs. I also built in some extra time for touring in Copenhagen, good city. You don't much touring time in Greenland. Good trip, good value.

My flight was cancelled leaving Greenland to Copenhagen due to mechanical issues, but luckily I had time built in to my trip and made connections. Get trip insurance or allow a couple of days in Copenhagen

Unique, once in a lifetime opportunity

10.0 of 10

I had the pleasure and privilege of hunting with Eric and his team in 2019. I was met with a friendly welcome at the airport by Eric himself and we made our way to his comfortable accommodation prior to the start of my hunt where we ate a delicious meal of Caribou steak and fries – a first for me! We went through my equipment together to ensure that I had packed correctly as per his recommendations whereupon Eric saw that my boots were not to the standard to ensure a comfortable and trouble-free hunt in the constant sub-zero temperatures. He very kindly lent me a proper pair of boots as well as a coverall to ensure that I was fully prepared for the cold. Setting out for camp on 3 snowmobiles, I was treated to a spectacularly scenic trip of about 45 minutes over frozen lakes and mountains. We stayed in a well-equipped cabin and went out every day hunting using the cabin as our base. The game is plentiful in his concession and we had daily sightings of Musk Ox, Caribou, Fox, Ptarmigan and snow Hare. Walking and stalking through thick snow in a monotone landscape is something that I am not used to, coming from the African bush. It is a very unique experience and definitely harder than I had anticipated. Walking through snow is another feat entirely and at times we would fall through the snow both up to my knees and at times up to my middle which was met with great laughter by all of us as you never knew who would be next. Whilst driving on the snow mobiles through the concession, we were constantly glassing and looking for Musk Ox that we would be able to access. We spotted a group of 6 bulls on day one, whereupon we stopped the vehicles and stalked the group who were on the opposite side of a blind rise until we managed to harvest a fantastic old Musk Ox bull as well as a meat bull for the Camp which we thoroughly enjoyed eating. Returning to camp with our quarry, I chose to assist with the skinning and butchering whilst Eric took the fresh backstraps from the Musk Ox to cook for supper. By the time we were done, dinner was ready and it was of the most delicious meat I have tasted. I never knew fresh meat could taste that good. Whilst eating dinner, I glanced out through the window and got my first glimpse of the Northern Lights which was just incredible. Day two set us up with a long walk and stalk onto a group of Musk Ox bulls once again where I managed to shoot a 25 year old bull – a once in a lifetime opportunity. We were also afforded the opportunity to hunt some Ptarmigan for the pot which was very unexpected and unique. On the morning of day 3, I had the unexpected addition of harvesting a snow fox close to camp after a short stalk of about 30m, after which we decided to go ice fishing but with little success. However on our return home I harvested a snow hare which was the absolute cherry on the cake for me. After traversing vast areas whilst hunting and seeing the accommodation that other people were staying in – I was extremely grateful to be staying in a warm cosy cabin and not just in a tent like some of the other places I had seen. On day 4, we moved to another area where we were based out of Eric’s B&B. This area afforded me the opportunity to hunt a lovely Caribou to supply the camp with meat for the next guests. This was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and one that I will remember forever – not just for the trophies, but for the warmth of Eric’s hospitality and the unique landscape, food and company. I cannot recommend Eric and his operation more highly and would encourage anyone looking for a hunting experience like this to book with Eric for the experience of a lifetime.

Opinion of Greenland Trophy Hunting

9.3 of 10

The hunt was physically challenging for me. I liked all the hard walking. I am 71 yo and my guides helped me by carrying my pack when I got really tired. They did not complain. They were very professional. There were plenty of animals. The food in camp was really good. The scenery and the Northern lights were incredible The wild Musk Ox and Carib. meat was great. The guides really worked to get me a close shot, ensuring a successful hunt.

It was really cold at night. If I knew it was going to be so cold I would have bought some warmer clothes. The weather was unusually cold not really the fault of the outfitter. In early Sept. I was not expecting it to be 14 degree F

Was a great hunting trip Everything and more than I thought. Eric has great guides and helpers. They put everything they had into getting everyone a great animal. Martin (guide) went out of his way to make sure everyone had the hunting experience they were looking for. Very hard hunt (physically) at this time of year.

Everyone at camp was a hunter and was willing to work very hard to get the game, and the experience.

The extra cost to take the game out of the wilderness.

Great Adventure

10.0 of 10

My friend and I had a wonderful hunt! We tagged a caribou and two musk ox during day one. We know this rare and shouldn’t be expected during such a hunt but we made the best of the opportunity given! We saw many critters ( caribou, musk ox, hares, ptarmigan, and fox) and enjoyed hunting them with the entire team at Trophy Hunting Greenland. Erik was great to work with from day 1- quick to respond to emails etc. The accommodations were good and the guides very professional. For anyone looking to enjoy a great hunt, see beautiful country and enjoy a great camp experience, I’d highly recommend this hunting adventure!

Lots of big caribou. You should take a couple of days to find the right one. Don’t shoot the first one. Plenty of opportunities. Musk ox was more difficult to get but was able to get a good old bull the last day. Hunting area is great and cabin is warm and comfortable. True hunting experience. Guides are the highlight. Real good people who will work hard for you.

Quality trophy hunt.

9.0 of 10

Guides were very knowledgeable of the area. There was a lot of game and trophy quality animals.

The food was sub par. We ate the same thing every day. I was unaware of the exchange rate between US dollar and Denmark currency. This added an extra 800+ dollars to my trip. Also the cost that the outfitter charged to ship my trophies from Greenland to Denmark seemed higher than the actual cost of shipping. Once an animal is down the guide takes it back to camp. It’s the Hunter’s responsibility to take the trophies out of camp at the completion of the hunt. This hike is extremely difficult and not suited for most hunters. Or you can pay the outfitter. This can be very pricey. The reason why they charge to get your trophies out is because most Foreign hunters do not tip. American hunters tip so there is a bit of confusion. What I did learn is if you pay the guide to take your trophies out the fees that they charge is their tip. I carried my trophies out myself and tipped due to the confusion

Amazing, successful hunt!

10.0 of 10

Erik was quick to respond to all questions, met us at the airport, was very accommodating and helpful pre/during/post hunt. We had a very successful fall hunt. Martin, our guide, knows the area very well and how to hunt them, and Daniel was an active and very helpful apprentice. He works hard, was very attentive to our interests, and made sure we had opportunities on plenty of animals. We were lucky and both got musk ox the first day, nice caribou on the second and third days and had plenty of opportunity for birds/small game as well. A lot of hiking around the area, so be prepared for that on the non-winter hunts. We got to help with much of the process, skinning, gutting, cutting meat, and packing it all, of course. Grateful for the weatherproof kitchen and sleeping structures, as it did rain, and was a bit cold. Plenty of food for breakfast and dinner. The musk ox meat was good, but caribou is delicious! First time on a guided hunt, and it was an amazing experience!

Early Sept the mosquitoes are gone, but there are biting flies. Bugs drive me nuts, but they weren't that bad, any gloves will be effective. I hardly got any bites on my head.

Just do it!

9.0 of 10

This was a very unique and good experience. If you want a Muskox, I doubt you will find a better opportunity with such a high success rate at such a good price. Four of us came and all collected a nice bull within the first two days. There were some very old bulls and an incredible number die here of old age. In two days of actively hunting them, we saw about 30 bulls. That said, the habitat quality is apparently not as good as some other areas so a true giant will be hard to find, but if a good representative of old age makes you happy, you can’t go wrong with Erik. All of our bulls were SCI bronze level trophies. After getting our bulls, we ice fished for cod and caught about 60, so they are plentiful and fun to catch on hand lines. I also collected fox, hare, and ptarmigan and found a pile of caribou sheds. The small game hunting was actually more physically demanding than the muskox because the muskox are lower on the hills, where other game takes some uphill climbing. The cabin was small and somewhat crowded with 4 hunters and 4 camp staff and guides, but not uncomfortable. It was plenty warm in below zero temps. The food is very basic, but plentiful. The scenery is fascinating, the camp comfortable, and game plentiful. Erik is very well organized and has good, reliable equipment. The camp staff did a good job, and our guide (Martin) was excellent. Even when back in town, Erik kept you comfortable and fed at no extra cost. You just can’t beat it for overall success and value. I highly recommend this hunt as a great adventure at a price most anyone can make happen if you have your heart set on a Muskox!

Getting to Greenland takes some extra effort and expense. The only way there from the U.S. is through Copenhagen, then on to Greenland. So it adds extra days and extra air fair. You should also add an extra day on each end in case of airline delays. BUT Copenhagen is a beautiful, friendly, extremely clean and interesting city with great food and great pubs, so take the opportunity to see it! It is also pretty expensive to get your trophy back due to shipping costs, permits, etc.

Fantastic Hunt with abundant game

9.3 of 10

Our group had many caribou bulls to allow selection. Musk ox bulls took a bit of walking and effort to locate, but the group was able to harvest 100% on mature bulls, including an archery bull at 8 yards!

Outfitter delivered everything as advertised. This is a no-frills hunt, but absolutely the hunt and experience our group wanted.

October Caribou

8.7 of 10

Erik was very responsive to all of my questions, he and Ras were superb guides who worked their tails off to get us on the game. Our stay at the youth hostel in town before and after the hunt was included and appreciated after a very physically demanding hunt. This hunt fully met our expectations of a challenging outing in an exotic location. We had close encounters with all of the native animals on our wish list, with the exception of arctic fox, and likely could have done so if we were to get out before dawn. We ate caribou and musk ox in camp daily, and I never tired of it...if you are not a carnivore, then you should look somewhere else. Four languages were spoken at the dinner table, and the opportunity to share our experience with the other hunters from different countries added greatly to the entire venture. The camp itself was very basic, but it was advertised as such. I have been in much rougher camps of my own making. By checking the boxes that I did, I see that it comes to an 8.7 rating. Realistically, it is more of a 9.7 because it was just about all that we were looking for. There are no 10's you know.

All of the following were beyond the outfitter's control, but should be mentioned: Game - the caribou were scarce and we had to work hard to locate caribou. All 4 hunters did fill their tags. Musk ox were located on the first day and could have been taken if we wanted. Hares and ptarmigan also. Weather - It was warmer than average, and this likely affected the caribou movement. The caribou were on top of the ridges that required some long hikes to locate. On the plus side, it allowed some long distance spotting and exciting stalks. It was cool enough at night that the ground was fairly solid to walk on. Terrain - I shot my bull 5.2 miles from camp, and my partner's was even further. I guess that we each walked over 40 miles in the 4 days of hunting. This hunt was very physically demanding and every step had to be plotted and carefully considered. Be in shape. But, this is not a high mountain hunt, and there was plenty of oxygen, so it was easy in that aspect. Northern lights - Erik was unable to use his influence to jump start any solar flares or to dissipate the evening cloud cover. Game importation regs. - The EU hunters were able to bring antlers and meat out with them, but the US restricts both. You can ship the antlers & cape to Denmark for processing, but it is expensive and it takes a long time to get it all back.

October Caribou and Muskox

9.7 of 10

Rasmus was my guide during the hunt along with Erik who was out there daily. The guides work extremely hard to get out an animal with zero complaints and positive attitudes. Rasmus did a fantastic job and provided great information about the animals and the area. Erik answered any questions I had honestly and true and I knew what to expect before coming to Greenland on the hunt. We ate Muskox and caribou in camp once killed daily and had lots of other things available to eat for us. But, was definitely a simple food choice. I saw Richard’s review above and he was the hunt before us and made sure I knew what to expect as well. We had five individuals in our tour and were all successful for Muskox and Caribou. The weather was cold, down to -20C when we were there and we saw more and more caribou moving in daily. The Muskox were always there and I saw 27 Muskox in total and over 100 caribou in four days of hunting.

Some things to keep in mind, this is a physically challenging hunt. We would walk 15-25k per day along with sledding out animals. It was cold every day going out, but, the accommodations back were nice. We saw lots of Caribou bulls just nothing with huge size, so, don’t expect to come here and kill a record book Caribou. However, some very large Muskox were killed by the other hunters. I ended up killing an old caribou and a young Muskox. Don’t expect a fancy lodge when coming here, we stayed in a nice warm structure and tent that was heated with kerosene.

You can be out of shape and still get a musk ox

9.7 of 10

First and foremost, Musk Ox were everywhere and guides were very professional and helpful. They would also make sure that you have a good time after you harvested your musk ox. We went ice fishing and small game hunting. Second, if you used to hunt public lands out west, this hunt is more like a 30 mins walk in the hippies infested parks in the suburbs. You basically just ride snowmobiles or atv until you spot a group. Then you put on a stalk. In addition, this place does not have much elevations. So most people should be able to handle it without any drama. As a matter of fact, one guy who has bad knees in our group was in his 80s. He knocked down a trophy musk ox on day 1.

Absolutely nothing. Some tips for future hunters. The walls of the cabin were thin. I suggest not bring female companions. (Or male, depending on what you like). Martin, one of the guide, is very fond of plum brandy distilled in Slovakia. Bring him a bottle would make him very happy and work extra hard.
