Warthog hunting in Mozambique

Warthogs need little introduction having had great exposure through the Disney movies. These comical looking animals are sought after for both their tusks and meat. Both males and females have tusks and the general rule of thumbs is that big tuskers are found in sandy soil areas. They use these tusks as a digging tool and tend to wear or break them in areas where the soils are rockier. Warthogs are found throughout most of Mozambique where protected from bushmeat poaching. They flourish in most hunting coutadas (Mozambican hunting concession) where outfitters conduct regular anti-poaching patrols to protect the wildlife. Warthogs are water-dependent and cannot resist a mud bath. Waterholes and mud wallows make a good starting point when in search of a trophy Warthog. Regular mud baths help to remove and relieve them from annoying unwanted external parasites, like ticks. Warthogs are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special hunting permits are required. However, Warthog trophies exported to the USA need to comply with the USDA trophy import regulations.
