Fallow Deer bowhunting during the rut

The fallow deer rut is one of the most exciting times of the year on our finca. During October, the normally elusive mature bucks become far more active, with their distinctive deep grunts echoing through the valleys as they establish their rutting stands and compete for the attention of the does. Unlike red deer, fallow bucks tend to concentrate around established rutting areas, giving us the opportunity to locate a good buck and carefully plan our approach. Our preferred method is spot-and-stalk bowhunting, using the terrain, wind, and the noise of the rut to work our way into bow range. With several bucks often competing in the same area, things can change very quickly, making for some incredibly exciting close encounters. We also have ground blinds and treestands available for hunters who prefer a more patient approach. Our days start early with a quick breakfast before heading out to the rutting grounds. We hunt through the morning, return to the lodge for lunch and a rest, and head out again in the afternoon until last light. All our guides are passionate bowhunters themselves, and we know the finca and its animals extremely well. With excellent trophy quality, 2,500 acres of varied hunting terrain, and our private luxury lodge, we can offer a very personal hunting experience. For us, the real enjoyment comes from getting close to these magnificent animals, watching the rut unfold around us, and sharing the day's experiences over a good meal and a cold beer back at the lodge.
