About this hunt

The montería is Spain's most traditional form of big-game hunting, practiced for centuries on the great dehesa estates of central and southwestern Spain. It is a collective drive hunt in which a team of beaters and specially trained packs of dogs — the rehalas — move through the terrain to flush and drive game (mainly wild boar, red deer, and, depending on the estate, fallow deer or mouflon) toward hunters positioned strategically around a designated stretch of land. The day combines the excitement of the wait and a well-placed shot with a strong social and cultural dimension, traditionally closing with the junta de carnes, a gathering where the game taken is laid out and discussed. It's a unique experience that brings together hunting tradition, landscape, gastronomy, and the hospitality of the Spanish countryside.

Territory

The Montería is a traditional hunting method that is unique to the Iberian Peninsula and has a history of more than eight centuries. It consists of enclosing a specific area of land, with an appropriate number of hunters strategically positioned along natural crossing points and escape routes used by the animals. The dogs (rehalas) are then released simultaneously in order to drive the game through the cover and flush the animals from places. We have more than 30 years of experience organizing monterías in Spain and Portugal, offering exciting hunting opportunities for red deer and wild boar. Our monterías offer a high guarantee of success thanks to our experience, impeccable organization, a strong field team, excellent hunting grounds, and a wide availability of means and resources.
