Oryxantilope in Südafrika jagen

Oryx is an alternative name used for a Gemsbuck (Gemsbok). This is a sought after plains game species of the semi-arid regions of South Africa. Their fawn grey colouring with black-and-white face masks make for their incredible beauty when standing silhouetted against the red sand dunes of the Kalahari Desert. Oryx are predominantly found in the semi-arid western, central and northern sandy soil regions of the country. They are prone to hoof rot when confined to poorly drained soils. Both sexes have long spear-like horns and the females actually have the longest horns. Hunting in the semi-arid Bushveld regions or open desert of South Africa can be extremely challenging as these animals have incredible eyesight and always seem to be alert making for a tough stalk. Oryx are undoubtedly a well-adapted desert warrior and the iconic hunting species of the Kalahari Desert in the Northern Cape. Their beautiful horns, skin and delicious meat have long attracted hunters to the region. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
