Wo kann man Lichtenstein Antilope jagen?
There are eight subspecies of Hartebeest However, we will concentrate on the Lichtenstein Hartebeest which is naturally distributed from south central Tanzania in the north through Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe down to the Kruger National Park, South Africa which is their most southerly range. They may not be hunted in Zimbabwe as they are listed as a Specially Protected animal and there are a limited number of Lichtenstein Hartebeest occurring on game ranches in South Africa and possibly Namibia.

In Zambia, Lichtenstein Hartebeest hunts sell for approximately $1,500 per day with a trophy fee of approximately $1,900. Also listed is a 9-day combo hunt which includes a Puku, Kafue Lechwe, Lichtenstein Hartebeest and a few other plains game animals selling for $9,500. In Mozambique you will be required to book a minimum of a 7-10 day hunt, with a daily rate of $600-$700 and pay a trophy fee of approximately $2,680-$3,200. When to hunt Lichtenstein Hartebeest?
In Mozambique the hunting season is open from April 1 to November 30. The Zambian season runs from the beginning of May to the end of November. In Tanzania the season is from July to December. Being an animal that prefers open flat grasslands, the best months for hunting Lichtenstein Hartebeest are the dry months of June to October when the grass is at its shortest and these animals come out to feed on the burns.

Walk and stalk is you best hunting method. They are often found way out in the open so best is to walk along the tree line margins using this as cover while keeping in the shadows and glassing regularly into the distant grass plains. Once you see a suitable bull you will need to plan your approach very carefully as these animal spook very easily. However, they may also tend to be quite inquisitive and often stop to look back giving the hunter a chance to take a shot.

As a group, Hartebeest also known as Kongoni, make an interesting group of animals to hunt with each sub-species having their own colour variations and some interesting horn shapes. Sometimes it can be fun to outsmart them by using various tricks to keep their attention while the hunting party sneaks closer in to get that final shot. The different sub-species are generally collected by true collectors and make great shoulder mounts or pedestal displays.
