Klipspringer hunting in Ethiopia

We found 2 hunts
Three Klipspringer subspecies occur in Ethiopia, the Abyssinian in the northwest, the Nigerian in the southwest and the Somali in the East. They are a compact, small goat-like antelope, renowned for its exceptional agility, thanks to its ability to walk on the tips of its rubbery hooves. This unique adaptation makes them excellent rock climbers, effortlessly navigating the rugged terrains they inhabit. Recognised by Safari Club International as one of the Pygmy Antelope (Tiny Ten) species, the Klipspringer is a small, brownish creature adorned with black speckles and a thick, coarse coat that rustles when touched. Notably, only the males bear horns, and those with horns extending beyond their ears are considered exceptional trophies. These antelopes favour rocky, stony hills, koppies (small hills), and areas with short cover. While they do venture onto flat ground to feed and drink, their true habitat lies amongst the rocks. The best time to hunt klipspringers is early in the morning when they bask in the sun on exposed rocks. When approached, they often stand motionless, curiously observing the incoming hunting party. However, once they decide to flee, they can traverse rocky and steep terrains with remarkable speed. Despite their popularity among hunters, the Klipspringer is classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, meaning no special hunting permits are required. However, an Ethiopian hunting license must be obtained before embarking on the hunt.
