Duiker hunting in Namibia

The only Duiker to occur in Namibia is the Common Duiker also known as the Bush Duiker. The species is also referred to as a Grey Duiker or Grimm's Bush Duiker. The particular subspecies found in Namibia is one of some 40 subspecies that have been described, however only between 14 and 20 are considered to be valid. So the Common Duiker subspecies you would hunt in Namibia is known as Steinhardt's Bush Duiker. These antelope adapt well to most habitats and often found living close to human settlements if not poached. They are difficult to hunt if targeted as a species and most likely to be hunted as a species of opportunity when stumbled across them while hunting something else. They are nocturnal so best hunted in the early morning before bedding down for the day. They are named after their running-diving action when in full flight. The Afrikaans the word duik, which means dive, apply describes this animals behavioral flight pattern. They are classified by the IUCN as a species of least concern so no special permits are required to hunt one of these specimens.
