Duiker hunting in Mozambique

Duikers are represented by two subspecies of Bush Duikers, five subspecies of Blue Duiker and two subspecies of Red Duiker. The two Bush Duiker subspecies found in Mozambique are the Nyasa Bush Duiker in the central and northern regions and the Southern Bush, Common, Grey or Grimm's Duiker in the south. Their colour varies from brownish-grey to rufous. They have a black blaze on their face and a tuft of hair on their crown. Only the males have horns. The four Blue Duikers all look a similar blueish-grey colour. Both males and females have horns. The two most hunted subspecies are geographically separated with Usangu Blue Duiker or Urori Duiker found in Nyasa Province and the Coastal, Mozambique Blue or Heck's Duiker along the East Coast. The Red Duiker subspecies are represented by the Robert's Duiker or Mozambique Red Duiker in the north and Natal Red Duiker or Red Forest Duiker in the south. Both species are uniformly red and both sexes have horns with a well-developed crowns making the sexing of the species very difficult. Only the Blue Duiker requires a CITES II permit.
