Chobe Bushbuck hunting in Mozambique

Chobe Bushbuck, the smallest of the spiral-horned species is a striking rusty-red colour with a considerable local and individual variation in spot patterns and stripes. They are incredibly strong swimmers and take to the water to evade a predator. They use an erect posture to establish dominance over younger males when breeding. In Mozambique, they can be hunted in the top half of the country from where the Zambezi River enters the country, along with the Zambezi drainage system to the eastern coastal belt and all the way north to Niassa. Chobe Bushbuck are best hunted in the early morning or afternoon by taking a slow walk and stalk along a drainage line. Being a water-dependent species, Bushbuck are always found near water and in many places can actually be flushed at any time during the day. Wounded Bushbuck need to be carefully approached as they have been known to attack both humans and their dogs during a follow-up search. Chobe Bushbuck are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special import or export permits are required other than a prearranged Mozambican hunting license.
