Cape Mountain Zebra hunting in South Africa

Cape Mountain Zebras are slightly larger than the more common Burchell’s Zebra and visibly quite different as they do not have any shadow stripes. They have black stripes on a white skin, a white belly, with an orange brown muzzle and a dewlap. This endemic species came close to extinction but due to the country’s conservation efforts may now be legally hunted. As the name implies, Cape Mountain Zebra are found in the mountainous National Parks of the Eastern and Western Cape. Today these gregarious animals exist on numerous privately owned properties in these provinces where they may be hunted. The best province in which to hunt a Cape Mountain Zebra is the Eastern Cape. Cape Mountain Zebra are most active during the early morning and late afternoon but can be hunted all day long. These Zebra never seek shade during the midday heat like their close cousins but are difficult to hunt due to the mountainous broken habitat they prefer. Walk and stalk is likely to be the order of the day unless ambushed at a waterhole. Although Cape Mountain Zebra are classified by the IUCN as a species of least concern a CITES II and Threatened or Protected Species permit is required prior to the start of your hunt.
