Cape Grysbuck is a small, shy and secretive animal that is classified by Safari Club International as a member of the “Pygmy Antelope” group of animals. They are easily identified by their thickset body, large ears and coarse red hair with white flecks. Cape Grysbuck is an endemic species only found in the Fynbos biome of the southern mountain valleys, scrub-covered flats and recovering agricultural fields in the Eastern and Western Cape of South Africa. These solitary nocturnal graze and browse at night and spend the day lying up in cover. You may be lucky and bump one during the day but the majority are hunted at night. They are best-hunted walk and stalk style in the early morning or late afternoon when most likely to be active. Permits to hunt at night with a spotlight can be arranged through the nature conservation authorities, if necessary. Cape Grysbok is listed as species of least concern by the IUCN and therefore no restrictions apply regarding the export of these trophies.
