Cape buffalo hunting in Mozambique

Cape Buffalo are known for their bad attitude and are sometimes referred to as the “African Mafia” of the animal kingdom because of its unnerving appearance and that resolute gaze as if you owe them money. They never forgive and will seek revenge if wounded making them one of the most dangerous animals to hunt. “Dagga Boys’, old mud-coated bulls are known to charge for no reason at all. Cape Buffalo may be hunted throughout the country with one of the highest concentrations of Buffalo per square miles can be found in the Zambeze Delta. Herds of over a thousand strong are also found in the eastern part of the country. Trophy quality is good countrywide whether you are hunting in the Zambeze Delta, Miombo woodlands of Niassa or the Mopani woodlands north of the Limpopo River. Two types of Cape Buffalo hunts are available in the country, the traditional walk and stalk where the animal is tracked and sometimes spot and stalk hunts. The other option is a swamp hunt where amphibious vehicles are used to access the delta. To find the Buffalo in the swamp you follow the white cattle egrets that follow the herds, much like looking for a bait ball when fishing. Once located, getting into shooting range may involve a little crawling whilst constantly watching the wind direction. These exciting hunts often involve getting your feet wet and hunting conditions in these swamp reedbeds can be hot and humid. Cape Buffalo (African Buffalo) are classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN and no special export permits are required. A Buffalo hunting license must be purchased before your hunt commences.
