Buschschwein in Südafrika jagen

The reddish brown bushpig is the African equivalent of a European Wild Boar and has a similar social structure and stature. Sounders range in size from 6 -12 animals, dominated by a boar with a number of sows and their piglets which are born brown with yellow stripes. They are the largest animal in the sub region to build nests of straw and are always found in reedbeds, forests, riverine thickets and at the bases of mountains, always near water. Although predominantly found along the eastern seaboard of South Africa, they are best hunted in the sugar cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal. As is the case with most swine, they cause immense damage to agricultural crops where they occur. Normally hunted at night over bait but may be bumped during the day and shot as a trophy of opportunity. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
