White tailed mongoose hunting in South Africa {{ totalToursString }}
White-tailed Mongoose is one of the biggest Mongooses found in South Africa. They are grey-brown in colour with relatively long hindlegs and a long white fluffy tail from which the animal gets its name.
This nocturnal animal is most active in the first part of the night and spends the day sleeping in abandoned burrows. They trot along with their noses close to the ground in search of a bite to eat. Their food includes beetles, insects, locusts, frogs, birds, snakes and fruit. When found close to human habitation they have been known to kill chickens and domesticated ducks. The only way to hunt them is to drive around whilst shining a spotlight at night where they are known to occur.
Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN means no special hunting permits are required. Some provinces do require a night hunting permit if you are not hunting on a registered commercial game farm.
