Successful Macnab Challenge

The trip immediately started with a catered pickup from the Johannesburg airport, followed by a relaxing drive to a reserve containing breathtaking animals. To say the Big 5 would be an understatement. Following the conclusion, my arrival at the lodge included a welcoming owner, operator, PH, and chef who began explaining the festivities planned for the hunt in the morning. The bonfire, dinner and dessert were delicious (including Kudu game meat). The lodge included my own private kitchen, living room, and clean bedroom. The morning started with a rifle warmup session for acclimating to the top-of-the-line equipment provided and the hunt began. The reserve size was expansive, with 4-wheel transportation everywhere to prevent becoming tired throughout the long and fun day ahead!
The macnab challenge included a Guineafowl, Impala, and Bass in the agenda. Guineafowl run quickly and aren’t the largest birds, but the PH and operator ensured we found a suitable location with Guineafowl for action, crossing the Guineafowl off my list.
The impala hunting was amazing. Many bucks and herds running and grazing across the land. It was a challenging time throughout the midday as the heat kicked in. We paused for a fantastic brunch ant the lodge, and fished for several hours in a local lake then private Eco-friendly (owned by Rust De Winters) resort that had large mouth bass swimming in the river alongside. An exhilarating catch was in-store and resulted in checking the bass off my list.
The owner mentioned that transitioning to a blesbok instead of an impala was an option as the day progressed for more exciting options! Lo and behold, my PH identified a grazing heaven with Blesbok. My operator advised me which animals were fair game, and we setup in the truck. Despite the brush, a visible shot was apparent which concluded the day. We celebrated with another sunset safari to see giraffes and zebras, followed by another excellent meal.
I cannot wait to come back, as this was an experience I will NEVER forget. Thank you, Rust De Winters!

Everything was top class. From the hunting to the accommodations, food and overall experience. We will no doubt be back for even longer than a week next time, it is a truly remarkable property with so much to access.

Amazing Trip! Once in a Lifetime Experience

This was an amazing and truly unique hunting experience from start to finish. If you’re looking for a polished lodge hunt, this probably isn’t it—but if you want a primitive, authentic adventure with excellent guides and incredible animals, it’s hard to beat.
I hunted the early season (August 14th - August 17th) for muskox and caribou and brought my 20-year-old daughter after my hunting buddy had to bail. She isn’t a hunter, but she loves the outdoors and camping, and having her along made the experience even better.
We stayed in tents, which added to the true hunting-camp experience. Be prepared to hike and to help pack animals back to camp. For us, that was part of what made the hunt so rewarding. The quality of the animals was awesome. I was fortunate to take a great muskox bull and an awesome caribou, which made the trip perfect.
Our guides, Mes and Rasmus, did an excellent job. They were knowledgeable, hardworking, and respectful, and they took excellent care of the trophies and capes. I also really appreciated that they didn’t drink or smoke in camp. They were great guys to spend the hunt with and added a lot to the experience.
We lucked out with the weather. It was mild, we didn’t get any rain, and it had been a dry year, so the ground wasn’t nearly as wet and sloshy as I had expected. We barely noticed the bugs either. We brought bug nets and didn’t really need them, but they’re small enough that I’d still recommend packing one just in case.
Meals are about what you’d expect from a primitive camp—cereal, cheese, bread and jam for breakfast, and sandwiches that we made and packed for lunch. One of the coolest things was being able to drink water straight from the streams and lake. After a long day of packing out the muskox, my daughter and I even took a cold plunge in the lake. On our final night in camp, we ate meat from both animals, which was an awesome way to finish the hunt.
Another highlight came on the way out of camp. Before heading back into town, Mes and Rasmus took us to see the Greenlandic Ice Cap. That was an incredible addition and made the trip feel like much more than just a hunt.
There is some downtime in camp, so bring a good book, playing cards, or something else to pass the time.
We arrived a day before the hunt and stayed a day afterward, which gave us time to walk around Kangerlussuaq. It’s a small place. The town cafeteria is in the airport, and the grocery store is right across the street. We also walked out to Ferguson Lake and tried to visit the museum, although unfortunately it was closed both times we went by.
Overall, this was a fantastic adventure. The primitive camp, hiking, packing animals, incredible scenery, quality of the muskox and caribou, and excellent guides made it exactly the kind of hunting experience I was hoping for. Being able to share it with my daughter made it even more memorable.
If you’re comfortable with a primitive camp, willing to put some miles on your boots and help with the work, I highly recommend the experience.
The guides are both from Denmark they spoke excellent English but primarily spoke Danish amongst themselves in and around camp which made it difficult to get into a good conversation.

Had a brilliant time with our guide Scotty, he was very accommodating and made sure we got up to plenty of other activities in amongst hunting. Accommodation and hospitality was great.
The only downside to the trip was being the first hunting party of the year Tom managed to get us booked in before he would usually start meaning we didn't experience the lodge in full swing with other clients

My highest recommendation for an outfitter

The quality of the guides and food as well as accommodations are unmatched. I booked hunting trips both domestically as well as internationally. You would be hard-pressed to find a better outfitter period! The guides were hard-working and clearly worked hard to find all of the members of camp a bear. The methods were both semi guided in stands or blinds as well as predator calling bears. I truly can’t say enough positive things about this outfit. If you’re looking for a spring bear hunt, I would highly recommend this outfitter without reservation. Do yourself a favor and book this hunt now!

My hunting guide, Ewan, was so good he can spot that deer a mile away with just 3 inches of its antlers sticking out from the bushes. He also has a very good judgement on where the best place to settle and stalk the deer for a good kill shot. That rifle that he let me used was top-notch accurate. Very impressive. He was able to get the video footage of the actual shot I did using his spotting telescope and his iPhone. What a day. Accommodation was also luxurious with beautiful lake and Mountain View. Ewan’s wife cooked a delicious meal for us every dinner
I was making a short film for myself and Ewan was kind enough to go back to the hunting site so I can reenact the footages that I was missing. What a guy, thanks E!

The entire family were the absolute best. Couldn't wish for anything more. Charles and Brian knew the animals and how to hunt. They went above and beyond to make sure nothing was overlooked and I had the best time possible.

Warm Hospitality and Wonderful Guidance on Hunting

The warm, family atmosphere and the outstanding cuisine, which never failed to impress, made this place truly unforgettable. The kind and welcoming couple made me fall in love with this place. Far from the noise and distractions of modern life, it offers a unique opportunity to experience Africa’s untouched natural environment and wildlife.
The host possesses extensive hunting experience and an exceptional knowledge of the animals and their distribution across the farm. With his guidance and expertise, I was fortunate enough to harvest several trophy animals, which was an incredibly exciting and rewarding experience. I will certainly return in the future to hunt Kudu & Eland again. It was simply a wonderful experience and one that I will always remember.

An Unforgettable Backcountry Experience

The scenery was breathtaking and the camp experience exceeded expectations. We enjoyed the quietness of the wilderness, seeing wildlife, spending time in the mountains, and experiencing such a remote area. The guides worked hard and the overall experience felt authentic and well organized.
We simply did not see a bear during the hunt, but that is part of hunting and wildlife unpredictability.

The accommdations were very nice. PH was willing to answer all my questions and I ALWAYS have a lot of them. The animal quality was very good.
I wish the shooting range was longer so I could have verified what the gun was doing at 200 & 300 yards.
