Successful Macnab Challenge

The trip immediately started with a catered pickup from the Johannesburg airport, followed by a relaxing drive to a reserve containing breathtaking animals. To say the Big 5 would be an understatement. Following the conclusion, my arrival at the lodge included a welcoming owner, operator, PH, and chef who began explaining the festivities planned for the hunt in the morning. The bonfire, dinner and dessert were delicious (including Kudu game meat). The lodge included my own private kitchen, living room, and clean bedroom. The morning started with a rifle warmup session for acclimating to the top-of-the-line equipment provided and the hunt began. The reserve size was expansive, with 4-wheel transportation everywhere to prevent becoming tired throughout the long and fun day ahead!
The macnab challenge included a Guineafowl, Impala, and Bass in the agenda. Guineafowl run quickly and aren’t the largest birds, but the PH and operator ensured we found a suitable location with Guineafowl for action, crossing the Guineafowl off my list.
The impala hunting was amazing. Many bucks and herds running and grazing across the land. It was a challenging time throughout the midday as the heat kicked in. We paused for a fantastic brunch ant the lodge, and fished for several hours in a local lake then private Eco-friendly (owned by Rust De Winters) resort that had large mouth bass swimming in the river alongside. An exhilarating catch was in-store and resulted in checking the bass off my list.
The owner mentioned that transitioning to a blesbok instead of an impala was an option as the day progressed for more exciting options! Lo and behold, my PH identified a grazing heaven with Blesbok. My operator advised me which animals were fair game, and we setup in the truck. Despite the brush, a visible shot was apparent which concluded the day. We celebrated with another sunset safari to see giraffes and zebras, followed by another excellent meal.
I cannot wait to come back, as this was an experience I will NEVER forget. Thank you, Rust De Winters!

The most amazing honeymoon

Everything was top class. From the hunting to the accommodations, food and overall experience. We will no doubt be back for even longer than a week next time, it is a truly remarkable property with so much to access.

This hunt was an adventure that I have wanted to do since I was a teenager. I had a few expectations for this trip and Rust De Winter Safaris did not disappoint. After long flights and an extended layover, I was met by Mr Xander at the airport with a hearty handshake and a pleasant greeting despite my early arrival. The relatively close proximity of the lodge to the airport provided a short but sufficient time for us to discuss what the next several days ahead would be like. Arriving at the lodge it was apparent this was a professional outfit with excellent accommodations and healthy populations of a variety of animals. The hunting time was split between walk and stalk and sitting in the hides, both of which proved to be challenging be it with my bow or the rifle. My time in the bush with Mr K was an experience in itself, never once did I feel pressured to take a shot outside of my comfort zone. I can’t end this review without mentioning the food, Mr Spice and his culinary skills were fantastic in providing a variety of different dishes throughout my stay. Sitting outside observing the various animals visiting the water adjacent to the lodge provided a relaxing atmosphere and an enjoyable way to unwind during the downtime. For me the experience was a 10 out of 10, and I plan to return again when the opportunity presents itself.

Accommodations are excellent! The food served is very good and I considered it gourmet quality. Very nice, comfortable hunting vehicles. Plenty of game running around with some good trophy animals in the mix. Lots of things to do in the area for non hunters. Overall a very good hunt.
Property is a bit small, but still challenging to get the bigger trophy animals.

Delivered what they promised

Pre hunt communication was excellent. This was a "last minute" hunt that was planned on short notice. The hunt was exactly as agreed to with no surprises. PH (Peter) and the entire staff went out of their way to ensure a good experience. The lodge is incredible.
Nothing negative comes to mind.

Rust de Winter Safaris delivers an amazing hunting experience! They are very knowledgeable and try their outmost to let you succeed hunting the animals you would like.
The accommodation is perfect to unwind during the break of the morning and afternoon hunt. The staff is super nice, they all do an amazing job to let you feel at home. We can't wait to go again!

Peter and Xander made us feel very welcome and gave us every opportunity to see as much game as possible. All the staff were really friendly. The accommodation was very comfortable and well appointed. The food was delicious!

This was a unique experience for me. Upon my arrival I was greeted warmly by Rust De Winter's family. My stay was lovely in an amazing property. And most importantly, from A to Z it was all communicated clearly by my guide Wian a professional hunter, safety and weapon selection, tracking, identifying critical points and a lot more. I will most likely visit again to refresh the experience. I definitely recommend this!

Once in a Lifetime Kudu Hunt

I really like how friendly the staff was and how accommodating they were. There was a very big variety of different game in very excellent condition. Kudu was on my hunting bucket list, and they surpassed all my expectations by guiding me to a great trophy that is a representative of the species. I absolutely cannot wait for my next hunting trip there. would 100% recommend.

As a South African resident having been on many hunting excursions I have experienced them all - from rough-and-tumble to highly organised outfits. My experience at Rust De Winter Safaris was one of the best, if not the best I have ever had. Their options from self-catering to fully catered provides for all the possible needs of the hunter combined with ample opportunities in the field to find the trophy you came for. I will most likely return for the experience in many years to come.
