This is a 4 day Muskox hunt package with 3 full hunting days and 1 trophy Muskox license included to the price. During the hunt we use snowmobile transport to drive a few km from the animals, and the rest of the hunt is done on foot. After an animal is shot, we transport meat and trophy back to camp by snowmobile. You have to be in a moderate condition, so you can walk 3-4 miles of varied terrain with little snow. There will be one hunting guide per two hunters. It may be around -25 C at night and -10 -15 C during the day, but it varies a lot, so you have to have warm clothes, preferably several thin layers than one thick. Approximate hunting plan: Day 1, arrival by plane from DK , transport to camp with departure about 13:00 Day 2-4, hunting from the camp. Day 4 in the evening, transport to Kangerlussuaq. You can not fly home the 5th day, or later. When Muskox and Caribou are shot, we use the rest of the hunt for small game hunting: there are foxes, ravens, ptarmigans and quite a few snow hares. And we can also go icefishing for fjord cods. The meat can not be exported according to the EU regulations, but you can bring up to 10 kg with you on your flight out of Greenland (please check meat import rules for your country). All harvested meat is used, either for human consumption, or as dogfood for my dogs depending on the quality. We always carry additional safety equipment and satellite phone on all trips. We normally accomodate up to 4 hunters. Success rate

As it is natural for any hunting, even with the success rate in the area being 100% for Musk-ox on the winter hunt, we can not guarantee you will get the animals. You must be realistic with your expectations, and much depends on youself, your fitness and shooting skills. The hunt takes place in a unique area with a very large Muskox population, and due to the commercial shooting of young animals, there is a very large portion of the population that are older bulls with a good number of possible medal trophies. During the winter the commercial hunting is over, and therefore it is quiet in the hunting area. Muskox is fairly easy to trace, and to get within shooting range of, but the Caribou are a little more spread out, more alert, and usually go up in the mountains. So Caribou hunt requires that you can walk longer. You must use the terrain as they easily get scared by a noise or movement. One should also be aware of that all major Caribou have their antlers thrown for the winter, so it's not the big beautiful trophies that you take home.

Jagdgebiet

In winter we hunt in a big area outside the conscessions, its south of Kangerlussuaq, and is about 350.000 acres. Transport is easy with snowmobiles, so we can easily get around in the area.

Camp

Our camp is a large cabin out in the hunting area, older and primitive, but heated and comfortable. Mattressses in cabin. Bring your own sleepingbag. From 2023 we will probably be in a new mobile cabin closer to the huntingarea, depends on the ice on the fjord and the weather. Transport from Kangerlussuaq to hunting camp is with with snowmobile and/or ATV. The catering is plain food, oatmeal with milk, bread and cold cuts, freeze-dried food for dinner if we are not near the camp, hot food in the evening where we mostly eat any meat from slaughtered animals, reindeer and musk steaks, tea and coffee. We can enjoy a whiskey or two in the evening, but not during the hunt and not large quantities. After the hunt you stay at Kangerlussuaq Youth Hostel as included in the price.

Anreise

Wegbeschreibung

When you fly here, then you travel to Copenhagen airport in Denmark, from there you fly with Air Greenland to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland, where we pick you up at the airport. It is possible to fly over Keflavik in Iceland to Nuuk and then Kangerlussuaq. But it can give some problems with delays and luggage, and the price is almost the same. So we do not recommend that route. Even thow is possible to fly direct over Copenhagen, its more safe to stay overnight in Copenhagen, and if you come from far away like the US, then 2 nights is better. Its up to you to get here on the correct date. You must bring your home country hunting permit and/or weapons permit. This is required by the hunting adminstration. When bringing your own hunting rifle you also need to bring the weapon papers for that rifle to show at check on with the Airlines. Check in with hunting rifle at AirGreenland takes about 30 min extra because of paperworks, and the weapon has to be handed over at a special counter. But this is not complicated to bring a hunting rifle.

Just do it!

This was a very unique and good experience. If you want a Muskox, I doubt you will find a better opportunity with such a high success rate at such a good price. Four of us came and all collected a nice bull within the first two days. There were some very old bulls and an incredible number die here of old age. In two days of actively hunting them, we saw about 30 bulls. That said, the habitat quality is apparently not as good as some other areas so a true giant will be hard to find, but if a good representative of old age makes you happy, you can’t go wrong with Erik. All of our bulls were SCI bronze level trophies. After getting our bulls, we ice fished for cod and caught about 60, so they are plentiful and fun to catch on hand lines. I also collected fox, hare, and ptarmigan and found a pile of caribou sheds. The small game hunting was actually more physically demanding than the muskox because the muskox are lower on the hills, where other game takes some uphill climbing. The cabin was small and somewhat crowded with 4 hunters and 4 camp staff and guides, but not uncomfortable. It was plenty warm in below zero temps. The food is very basic, but plentiful. The scenery is fascinating, the camp comfortable, and game plentiful. Erik is very well organized and has good, reliable equipment. The camp staff did a good job, and our guide (Martin) was excellent. Even when back in town, Erik kept you comfortable and fed at no extra cost. You just can’t beat it for overall success and value. I highly recommend this hunt as a great adventure at a price most anyone can make happen if you have your heart set on a Muskox!

Getting to Greenland takes some extra effort and expense. The only way there from the U.S. is through Copenhagen, then on to Greenland. So it adds extra days and extra air fair. You should also add an extra day on each end in case of airline delays. BUT Copenhagen is a beautiful, friendly, extremely clean and interesting city with great food and great pubs, so take the opportunity to see it! It is also pretty expensive to get your trophy back due to shipping costs, permits, etc.

Wouldn't change a thing

9.7 of 10

Everything was great: Animals/fish: muskox, arctic hare, arctic fox, ptarmigan, cod. Our group got 4 big mature muskox bulls the first morning of the hunt out of one herd. Everyone was happy with their bulls. One guy in camp caught a cod we estimated at 22-24 lbs which was unheard of. 2 of us got fox...2 of us got arctic hare. The other guys weren't interested in either one or they could've taken them. Everyone got ptarmigan. Guides: they worked hard for us...even after we got our muskox. Food: caribou, muskox, cod, ptarmigan for dinners. Cereal and oatmeal for breakfasts. Sandwiches for lunch. Guides cooked great dinners for us. Northern Lights: If it's clear, they can be spectacular. Already wish I was back in camp. ***Don't underestimate the need for good clothes. The trips to camp and to the hunting area can get cold. I wore leather hunting boots and my feet got cold on the way to camp. The rest of the trip had great weather and I never got cold again. ***You may want to consider changeable tickets for your flights. We had one cancellation due to weather that caused quite a hassle given it took 3 airlines to get there. We almost had to buy a new ticket to get home but finally got some help after 3 hours on the phone. One guy from another camp had to buy a ticket home for $2250 when his flights couldn't be changed.

Nothing...trip was great.
