Zambia lies in south-central Africa, bordering eight nations including Tanzania to the northeast, Mozambique to the east, and Namibia and Angola to the west. The northeastern Luangwa Valley cuts deep into the country from the border region, while the western expanse reaches into the Kafue basin. Far northern Zambia contains the Bangweulu floodplains and swamps, a very different ecosystem from the miombo and river country farther south. These diverse habitats underpin the country’s diverse hunting potential.

Hunts are conducted in classic African style. Dangerous species like buffalo and elephant are tracked on foot from spoor, with guiding often switching to stealthy foot stalks once the animal is located. The use of vehicles to traverse terrain is limited, visitors expect to move on foot in varied grounds. In swamp zones like Bangweulu, water hides and boat approaches are used for sitatunga and lechwe. For plains game, glassing from vantage points or short stalks across open habitat is common. Night hunting is prohibited. Baiting is only allowed during the hunt (not prior), and only with the animals you harvested under your license quota, which makes lion and leopard hunting an extra challenge. Hunting with a bow is legal, but crossbows are not allowed.
