Amazing Trip! Once in a Lifetime Experience

This was an amazing and truly unique hunting experience from start to finish. If you’re looking for a polished lodge hunt, this probably isn’t it—but if you want a primitive, authentic adventure with excellent guides and incredible animals, it’s hard to beat.
I hunted the early season (August 14th - August 17th) for muskox and caribou and brought my 20-year-old daughter after my hunting buddy had to bail. She isn’t a hunter, but she loves the outdoors and camping, and having her along made the experience even better.
We stayed in tents, which added to the true hunting-camp experience. Be prepared to hike and to help pack animals back to camp. For us, that was part of what made the hunt so rewarding. The quality of the animals was awesome. I was fortunate to take a great muskox bull and an awesome caribou, which made the trip perfect.
Our guides, Mes and Rasmus, did an excellent job. They were knowledgeable, hardworking, and respectful, and they took excellent care of the trophies and capes. I also really appreciated that they didn’t drink or smoke in camp. They were great guys to spend the hunt with and added a lot to the experience.
We lucked out with the weather. It was mild, we didn’t get any rain, and it had been a dry year, so the ground wasn’t nearly as wet and sloshy as I had expected. We barely noticed the bugs either. We brought bug nets and didn’t really need them, but they’re small enough that I’d still recommend packing one just in case.
Meals are about what you’d expect from a primitive camp—cereal, cheese, bread and jam for breakfast, and sandwiches that we made and packed for lunch. One of the coolest things was being able to drink water straight from the streams and lake. After a long day of packing out the muskox, my daughter and I even took a cold plunge in the lake. On our final night in camp, we ate meat from both animals, which was an awesome way to finish the hunt.
Another highlight came on the way out of camp. Before heading back into town, Mes and Rasmus took us to see the Greenlandic Ice Cap. That was an incredible addition and made the trip feel like much more than just a hunt.
There is some downtime in camp, so bring a good book, playing cards, or something else to pass the time.
We arrived a day before the hunt and stayed a day afterward, which gave us time to walk around Kangerlussuaq. It’s a small place. The town cafeteria is in the airport, and the grocery store is right across the street. We also walked out to Ferguson Lake and tried to visit the museum, although unfortunately it was closed both times we went by.
Overall, this was a fantastic adventure. The primitive camp, hiking, packing animals, incredible scenery, quality of the muskox and caribou, and excellent guides made it exactly the kind of hunting experience I was hoping for. Being able to share it with my daughter made it even more memorable.
If you’re comfortable with a primitive camp, willing to put some miles on your boots and help with the work, I highly recommend the experience.
The guides are both from Denmark they spoke excellent English but primarily spoke Danish amongst themselves in and around camp which made it difficult to get into a good conversation.

Greenland is amazing - hunting in this beautiful country will blow your mind. Loved Erik, Mads and Rasmus. They worked extremely hard to make sure all hunters in our party bagged a quality animal.
We went in September - definitely bring good hiking boots; I was thankful to have a waterproof boot- several times we had to walk through water that was ankle height. We hiked roughly 68 miles in 4 days, which is abnormal- most people hike much less to get their animal. Your trip will be better if you are in good shape.
Also if you fly in a few days before or after your hunt, staying at the youth hostel is included in the price of the hunt (Erik, the owner also owns the youth hostel). This is a great perk as it is can be expensive to get to Greenland and it is expensive to be there.
Would love to return for another hunt with these awesome people. If you are looking to treat the guides, Rass seems like he enjoys bourbon and French cheese. Mads is into Kuiu and Stone Glacier. (It apparently takes six weeks to get any shipping to that country so you can always just ask Erik if guides are in need of something specific :)
Everything about the hunt was amazing.
Heads up about Greenland: flights can be unreliable, especially into Nuuk, so prepare yourself. Avoid flying in on the 1st of 15th; that is payday and is apparently spent drinking by the locals, even locals who work at the airports.
Also, FYI, the grocery store in Kangerlussauq closes at 1400 on Saturdays, and is not open on Sundays. So, make sure you get yourself some groceries as soon as you land if you are there several days before your hunt.
Other than that - book this hunt. You won’t regret it.

Everything was great:
Animals/fish: muskox, arctic hare, arctic fox, ptarmigan, cod. Our group got 4 big mature muskox bulls the first morning of the hunt out of one herd. Everyone was happy with their bulls. One guy in camp caught a cod we estimated at 22-24 lbs which was unheard of. 2 of us got fox...2 of us got arctic hare. The other guys weren't interested in either one or they could've taken them. Everyone got ptarmigan.
Guides: they worked hard for us...even after we got our muskox.
Food: caribou, muskox, cod, ptarmigan for dinners. Cereal and oatmeal for breakfasts. Sandwiches for lunch. Guides cooked great dinners for us.
Northern Lights: If it's clear, they can be spectacular.
Already wish I was back in camp.
***Don't underestimate the need for good clothes. The trips to camp and to the hunting area can get cold. I wore leather hunting boots and my feet got cold on the way to camp. The rest of the trip had great weather and I never got cold again.
***You may want to consider changeable tickets for your flights. We had one cancellation due to weather that caused quite a hassle given it took 3 airlines to get there. We almost had to buy a new ticket to get home but finally got some help after 3 hours on the phone. One guy from another camp had to buy a ticket home for $2250 when his flights couldn't be changed.
Nothing...trip was great.

Our group got 4 great bulls the first morning. Guides worked hard keeping us busy fishing and hunting small game.
Long atv ride to the hunting area but the new camp being built will solve this.

The constant effort to get you on game.
The outfitter was awesome, the airline getting me there really lacks.
