Blue duiker hunting in South Africa {{ totalToursString }}
This rabbit size Duiker is South Africa’s smallest Duiker. It gets its name from its blue-grey coat and forms part of the “Tiny 10” group of huntable antelope species. It is a forest dwelling Duiker and both sexes have horns.
Historically, they occurred along the eastern seaboard of South Africa where they are called “Puti” by the Xhosa and “Ipiti” by the Zulu people of the region. Limited hunting is available in southern KwaZulu-Natal where its former habitat has been fragmented by urban development. The best hunting area is the coastal forest and valley bushveld regions of the Eastern Cape.
Hunters use a shotgun to shoot these Duikers in full flight while being flushed and chased across cleared forest strips by a small pack of Jack Russell dogs. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special hunting permits are required.
