Warthog hunting in Central African Republic

Warthogs, famously depicted as “Pumba” in Disney’s The Lion King, are among Africa’s most comical animals. Named after the protruding warts on the sides of their heads, males typically have two pairs while females have a single pair. Both sexes boast prominent curved tusks. Warthogs can be hunted in the savannah regions of the Central African Republic (CAR). They use their tusks to root and dig up short, high-quality grasses, often seen kneeling while engaged in this task. These mostly diurnal animals are always found near water and sleep in disused burrows, where they build nests and give birth to their young. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, Warthogs do not require special hunting permits. However, a prearranged hunting license must be purchased before the hunt begins. Additionally, warthog trophies exported to the USA must comply with USDA trophy import regulations.
