Beaver hunting

Beaver is very common in Estonia, because of the favorable living conditions and abundance of food. Magnificent piled up shelters- “lodges” are located on the riverbanks as well on the ditches in the forests.  It is common that many generations of beavers live in one “lodge” and the number of animals in one shelter can be up to ten. Hunt arrangement- Beavers are stalked in the mornings and evenings close to the feeding areas or “lodges”. It is also possible to hunt the beaver from a boat on the bigger rivers. In addition to previously mentioned methods, also a burrow-hunt can be conducted: firstly the dikes will be broke down in order to decrease the water level. Then the dogs will chase the beavers out from the burrows.
