Topi hunting in Tanzania

Topi, a Hartebeest like subspecies of Tsessebe found in East Africa are a medium sized antelope, with elongated heads, a distinct hump and both sexes have lyre-shaped horns. They have reddish-brown to purplish coats and often-found standing on termite mounds which they use as lookout points. Topi may be hunted in the concessions of Western Tanzania and Mwasa regions. They also occur in the Serengeti National Park up into the Mara National Park (Kenya) where they may not be hunted. Topi have good hearing, eyesight and one of Africa’s fastest antelopes. Unfortunately, with increasing human populations, agricultural development and infrastructure, such as roads and settlements, their former distribution areas are under threat. Competition for grazing with domestic livestock adds to their woes. Classified as a species of least concern by the IUCN, no special export permits are required. A prepaid minimum of a 10 day hunting license must be pre arranged prior to hunting this species.
