Organized thrush hunting is usually carried out in dedicated preserves, where the territory provides sufficient food, cover, and water for large flocks of the birds to concentrate. The price quoted is usually for a group of hunters, and for at least two days. Expect to pay some $1,500 for a two-day hunt, with meals and accommodation included.

When to hunt Thrush?

Thrush are mostly hunted in the wintering grounds after migrating flocks arrive from colder countries. The best time for thrush hunting is the fall, starting from November, and continuing until February of the next year. Early season, that targets the birds fresh from migration, is usually believed to be better.

Why hunt Thrush?

In the days of the Roman Empire, thrush meat was considered one of the most prized delicacies. Small wonder that thrush hunting is popular in the countries that were once provinces of the Empire, especially on some Mediterranean islands where hunters don’t have many options as to what game to pursue. It goes without saying that this hunt must be carried out in a responsible way, in particular that hunters can identify birds well, to avoid shooting other songbirds that can be endangered. Bearing this in mind, thrush hunting can be an initiation to one of the world’s oldest hunting tradition.
